read while kiddo was sick (for FIVE days - oh my gods).

I forgot how perfect these books are, and I am just glad that, so far, they are pretty timeless.

Even as an adult, this series is addictive. It's an episodic story of mischief, on the same vein as Anne of Green Gables, except for a younger set (and, honestly, way more mischievous, because Ramona tries to get herself into some of her scrapes). Even though she's a pest, the end had me feeling so horrible for Ramona. Definitely a great read-along for elementary aged children, and maybe a little younger.

I love and have loved all the Ramona books. Reading them as an adult and mom, I both love and get annoyed with her precocious-ness. I wonder how I would parent her. Clearly she believes that throwing an epic fit will get her what she wants. No bueno. I still love all the characters and these timeless stories bring back lots of wonderful memories. The kids like them too!

Ramona is such a spirited and resonant manifestation of what it's like to be five and have ideas of your own and yet to want so badly to be accepted and approved of. Cleary really gets the kid psyche.

Some basic human characteristics don't seem to change. There have always been kids like Ramona, Beezus, & Henry Huggins and there always will be. Beverly Cleary's characters are just as relatable today as they were when the book was first published. For a child, it's a relief to know that there are other kids who are imaginative, smart, but prone to misunderstandings. For parents, it's a relief to know that there are children, like their own, who are imaginative, smart, but prone to misunderstandings! That's what makes this series such a gem, we can all relate and we feel better knowing that there are other people out there who get what we are going through.
