R.L. Stine, you lazy bastard. If you indeed wrote this yourself.
This book started out really strong, I liked the beginning a lot. The thing I’ve realized about the later RL Stine books is that the longer they go on, the crazier they get. This started to feel a lot like a cheesy horror movie, like one on the SyFy channel. I’m all for cheesy horror movies, and this definitely kept my attention, but the writing was really off putting in my opinion. The beginning of the book is in third person and I understand why, but main character switches from from 3rd person to first person and it really just takes me out of the spooky mood.

I'm glad that I finished this book today. Sure, I must be patient enough to end this book. Well, the story pace is slower than the fear street's novel that I hv read before.

I have a ridiculous, mile-wide soft spot for the Fear Street books. I mean, you plop one in front of me and I will eat it and then ask for more, please. Are they complicated? Only in terms of the intricate family curse that makes things so weird. Are they insightfully written? Alas, no.
But boy do they do exactly what it says on the tin. You want hairs on the back of your neck stand on end? Find some of these books.
This one is just like the others I've read with the added bonus of it being during the twenties partly. (Some of the lingo was more appropriate for the fifties than the twenties but I can almost guarantee that no one is going to read this book for its historical accuracy). Weird things happen. Magic happens. Bam, curse. This one has the added benefit of the ending, which was almost happy. This is weird for these books. But that's okay. I'm okay with not having a depressing ending from this one.
No, but seriously. This is like...I don't know, something that you know probably isn't good for you but you still eat it anyway because you like the taste.
Only it's got to have some value because there wasn't a dull part in the whole book. And also, benefit of being in the culture I am: you have a reflex to do family history before you get married. A lot of problems wouldn't have happened if they'd done that first. But this was really very good. Two thumbs up.

Nice throwback to one of my favorite teen book series!
Although wasn't a fan of the last part of the book and how the story came together, it was still a page turner and kept me reading to finally figure out what was going on.

Classic RL Stine. I get it, I'm sure after writing hundreds of horror-themed books that you start to run a little thin on plot lines but wow, did this get sloppy. It doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable, because as I said, Classic Stine and that equals nostalgia for sure. It does mean however that things got a little wacky and slapdash, perfect for an easy read.
