This book was something else.
Its the kind of story I’ll be pondering for a long time.
It’s completely addicting and despite the fact that I was unsettled by everything that happened I just had to keep reading. So, so atmospheric. If a story could smell like something this one would be cloves and soil. Also, dead roses. 🥀🥀🥀
The plot twist… I was not expecting that. Honestly this bittersweet tale was a rollar coaster. The end was abrupt but who cares? It’s a haunting murder mystery where the lush writing paints a dreamy and dark atmosphere with academia vibes at its finest. Plus, witchy lesbians. What more could you want?

This was a very weird book. Aside from the general unlikeableness of the characters, the writing was very repetitive at times. Certain phrases would appear multiple times even in the same chapter or on the same page but not in a way that makes it feel like it was intentionally done for emphasis or the like. Just really not my cup of tea :/

i thoroughly enjoyed this book. i love anything to do with same sex boarding schools, lesbianism, WITCHES, dark academia ... it was literally what i love on paper. it was very addicting to read, very easy to grasp the concept of, although the only reason i docked it from a 4.5 to a 4.25 is the ending. it did feel a little rushed, although it was extremely effective, i don't know if it was the ending i wanted. i could definitely think of a couple more ways of how this book could've wrapped up, but nonetheless i really enjoyed it. i also liked that felicity was a very, very unreliable narrator, which i think made the story a lot more twisty and fun. i did see another reviewer on goodreads say ellis was a donna tartt self-insert, and it made me laugh because i can kind of see it?

I went into this book thinking I was just getting another boarding school book. (And there’s nothing wrong with that because that is one of my go to genres/tropes) However what I got was so much more than a boarding school book. We got mystery, the allure of magic (think the idea of Salem witch myth at the center of the story) and so much more this book was just a really fun time. I love that our narrator was unreliable at times due the her traumatic past. There’s LGBTQ+ representation. Honestly the only reason my rating isn’t 4 stars is because the main character never really learned from her past actions and ended up repeating her actions even though she did exactly what I wanted to do for 100 or so pages.

4.5 rounded up! This was fantastic and I couldn't stop reading (finished it in one sitting XD). And honestly the moment
Ellis was like, let's reenact the murders, I was like NO BAD IDEA XD
and I was right.
