2 ~This book would have been so much better without Emily in it!~ Stars
Dear Emily,

My Emily:

I didn't hate this book. I enjoyed the story. The writing wasn't anything special, but the overall book wasn't that bad.
Gavin was the best part of this book. He is a sweetie pie who does says some really swoony stuff.
I even got turned on a couple times, so that's always a plus.
My Gavin:

I can't even talk about Emily without getting upset...So I will just say this...
Emily = Coward
Dillon doesn't even deserve to be cast! His face can fucking burn and melt off, for all I care!

A MUST READ.
Wow, I absolutely love this two book series. It literally left me thinking about these books day after I read them. She is a wonderful writer and I would fully recommend her books to anyone who loves the genre. A++++

I was so excited to read this. A simple and somewhat uncomplicated romance novel to get me through a pretty boring weekend. Clearly, there was going to be a love triangle, but I was hoping that it would end up being okay, and it was. Because one of the characters was a total dick.

You couldn't help but instantly connect with Emily - she's 'every girl'. You know, the girl next door who's sweet and thoughtful and hardly ever thinks of herself. When Gavin meets her, he's pretty much instantly obsessed and will not let it go. It's awesome.
That being said, sometimes if something like this is not done right, it comes off as super fucking creepy. But McHugh did a good job with this, she managed to make him obsessed and instantly in love, yet still remain respectful of Emily's needs.

I really loved their chemistry and was hoping they would find their way together. And every single time that Dillon did something dickish, that hope got larger and larger. The feelings between Gavin and Emily was just crackling and actually made me kind of jealous.

And when they managed to connect finally, it was pretty epic. But it happened too early in the novel, and that filled me with sadness because I really wanted them to end up together at the end of book one. I know, impossible dreams.

But it ended. In a cliffhanger. Which just ... annoyed me. It did not fill me with excitement to read the next novel, it kind of filled me with anger honestly. But hey, you know I'll read it. I just need to calm down that I had been betrayed once more by a cliffhanger before I read it.

So mad at this book right now I just there are no words for how pissed I am...... I really wish I hadn't taken Angie's Dreamy Reads advice and gotten this. The only reason this isn't a 0 star review is because of Gavin who is one of the best book boyfriends but hes not a good enough excuse to read it. Dillon made me sick and my skin crawl whenever he would show up and Emily just..... What I really hate is that I now feel compelled to buy the second book just to see how the author will fix the mess she made and to hopefully get a happy ending.
Back and forth, back and forth.
I really don't enjoy reading books that involve domestic abuse. It's not really something that holds my interest.

Listen - I love the hero-chases-heroine trope. Like, I LOVE it. I didn’t think there was a limit to how many times the hero could profess his love, be rejected by the heroine and I would still love it - but this book proved me there is!
This woman is torn between two men: one who’s controlling, abusive and practically an alcoholic - let’s call him Chad - and another who’s super hot, rich, kind, and loves her - our hero. Oh, the dilemma...
She continues to get back together with her abusive boyfriend - without any convincing motivation - and sleeps with him even after she and the hero professes their love for each other. She’s going ahead with wedding plans with Chad all because of a misunderstanding with the hero!
Like okay, you thought the hero was cheating - but that doesn’t mean you have to marry yucky Chad! Like what?
Then this continues: the hero begs her to choose him, tells her he loves her, they make out, and then she rejects him. And goes back to Chad. Super frustrating!
I was at my breaking point at the end of the book - but I finished it. Will I read the next book? Yes. But, for once, I hope the hero makes the heroine grovel a bit before smushing. Maybe more than a little bit.
Honestly, if this was real life I would tell him to drop her ass...
