Undemanding, enjoyable fluff. The recipes are great, don't read while hungry.

I still liked the very honest ways of Hannah. She's a very funny character. It made me want to eat cake so much. I just wished the resolution was better.

When a judge at the local bake-off is found dead Hannah snoops around time help her friends who appears to be the prime suspect in the murder.

I found the second book in the series to be more about Hannah and Andrea’s growing sisterly relationship, which I enjoyed. The book had so many characters and twists I honestly had no suspicions over who had done it until quite near the end.

One of my favourite quotes from the book was a conversation between Hannah and her mother. “Hannah! You’ve simply got to stop doing things like this.”
“It’s not like a scavenger hunt, mother! I don’t go around looking for Murder victims on purpose.”

I know this series has been around for some time - it’s nice to find a “new to me” series I enjoy.

I just finished Strawberry Shortcake Murder by Joanne Fluke and I must say I loved it! It's about a baker (specifically cookies) named Hannah Swensen. In this book Hannah is judging a baking contest and discovers one of the judges has been murdered. She then tries to discover who the killer is.

I really loved this installment. Hannah is funny and charming. I love her family and her whole cookie shop. It has humor and suspense. There are two love interests, the yummy detective (that I'm rooting for) and the safe choice of Norman who adores her. I can't wait to read the next one :)

This one barely gets a three. I'm only two books into this series and I'm already tired of the ending, where *big* *final* *clue* is practically written in neon for the readers and the usually smart protagonist completely misinterprets it. The first three quarters of the book was good, though, and better than book 1.

Cute cozy mystery, set in Minnesota.  Lots of dessert recipes included as part of the book.  The twists and turns of the story keep you guessing until the end.

I picked up the Hannah Swensen series four years ago. I read those books adapted into episodes for the Murder She Baked series, all but one, Strawberry Shortcake Murder. After a four year hiatus, I returned to the series with Strawberry Shortcake Murder. I will likely take another break from this series as I'm in no rush to finish and the books are ok. I wouldn't label them as guilty pleasure or trash, I really do find them ok. I find some criticisms about Hannah and the paint by number writing valid and won't defend. I rarely write reviews and I am only doing so because I wanted to comment on a passage I thought was weird. I found only one other review that commented on the weird Native American Indian comment Fluke inserted via Hannah's nostalgic musings of the good ole days when casual racism was ok because it wasn't intended to be offensive. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more reviews addressing the comment, I stopped searching after one review. I thought it was weird and was glad to see that at least one other person agreed with me. I do hope Fluke has evolved from the typical I'm sad I can't use this racist term that isn't really racist because it wasn't intended to be that way and my Native American friend said it's ok because thinking...
