This is the first Agatha Christie book I’ve read, which I picked up for the name given it’s the Halloween season, and it did not disappoint. I like the murder mystery genre, though typically avoid reading anything too scary, and what is great about Christie is you get just the right amount of danger and intrigue without real fear or threat. The story unfolds so beautifully, and though I’ll be admittedly arrogant enough to say I figured out who the killer was before the text got there, but having never read Christie before, IDK if the killer is typically figured out by most before the end? I don’t want that to be true, since I like that I figured it out but also because her books are so widely (the most widely) read around the world that it’s nice to think I solved the puzzle faster than most. Though I did not figure all the connections, especially concerning the Butler’s, but still. It’s definitely an entertaining, fast read, and if you’re a fan of the genre, definitely worth picking up.

This is my least favorite of the Poirot novels I’ve read but it was still solid. I listened to the audiobook and found my mind often wandering but I think that’s more of a me problem than the book’s. I do feel that of all the Christie’s I’ve read, this one aged the worst. The way subjects such as sexuality, mental health, and disability are addressed is a bit painful and it was distracting at times. Overall, this was a relatively short, entertaining read, perfect for the Halloween season.

This book was a little hard to follow, and I could tell it was one Agatha Christie wrote later in life. Its very dialogue heavy, and while intriguing, the plot tangled up into a bit of a confusing jumble. However, I enjoyed Poirot as always, I absolutely loved the character of Mrs. Oliver (an icon), and
I loved the Agatha-Christie-flair of multiple mysteries fitting together to break open Poirot's case!

I am so tempted to give this 5 stars but considering I did complain a bit earlier on about it dragging some, I’m going to give it 4.5 ⭐️

Agatha Christie….. your mind. The references not only to the time period this was written in but also to other famous tales made this book so interesting. I enjoyed the characters a lot and really appreciate how Agatha Christie ties her stories all together.

The second (I guess it was more like the fourth, technically) murder did surprise me, which I appreciated. I liked that it actually served a purpose to the story and wasn’t there as just a gotcha moment.

The murderer(s) themselves didn’t necessarily shock me although one of them made me very sad. Never trust a beautiful man, I suppose. HOWEVER, what DID surprise me was the reveal that Michael was ALSO Miranda’s FATHERRRRR!!!!! I was so gagged I can’t lie. Jaw dropped open, the gasp to gusp all gasps. What a good fucking ending.
