Night Embrace is the second book in the Dark Hunter series. For years I have seen this author popping up, and so I decided I had to try her out. So I found Night Embrace at my local library and I picked it up before anyone else could. I had high expectations for this book and it blew me away after reading it. I don't think there was anything that I didn't like....it has everything you need in a paranormal romance!! There is such imagination in the plot and this fierce and passionate world of were's and vampires, demons, gods, and hunters. Before I even picked this up, I had a feeling that this story would be sexy and fun and I was right!!
What a pair Talon and Sunshine make together, and I was on their cheer team from the very beginning. Talon is one fierce warrior, and in the beginning he seems dark and aloof and without any emotion except for the joy he feels with his cup of coffee. Then when seeing some vampires to kill, he finds himself stuck in a pink everywhere loft, and with a quirky woman that stirs his desire like none other. Talon is quite a bit of a tortured hero we have here. He has lost his wife, child, parents and sister to his enemy. He lives a desolate life of killing and serve to Artemis. I loved Talon as the hero, and what a tasty male he is. I just wanted to gobble him up. He was protective, fierce, alpha all the way and what a fighter he is especially for Sunshine. Sunshine, well she was different, but I really liked her from the get go. She is fun, quirky, and unique. She takes everything in stride, and doesn't have panic attacks from learning about Talon, I love how accepting she is of Talon. There is quite a strong connection and what a emotional roller coaster this story is. Overall a winner of a paranormal romance. A wonderful blend of memorable characters, intense packed plot, enough steam to give you sunburn, a love story to steal your heart!! A KEEPER!!

3.5 stars.
This book felt a bit long and drawn-out, but I did like it. I'm glad to have finally returned to the Dark-Hunters, and now I kind of can't wait to read more. Sherrilyn Kenyon is really great at characterization. I mean, she makes you dislike someone, then turns around and makes you sympathize with them. Except Artemis. She's just evil.
This story followed Talon and Sunshine. I really liked Sunshine. She could easily have been annoying because she forgot things a lot, but I actually quite liked her. As an artist, she appreciated the beauty of life. Sunshine was also a strong character, not letting anyone dictate her life. Even Talon, and I liked that.
Talon made a good hero. I mean, with his awful past, I obviously felt bad for him, and I wanted him to get his HEA. Talon started out the book very detached and calm, but it turned out that when he let his emotions through the barriers he put up, Talon was a pretty good guy. I mean, he was a bit too jealous and possessive, but Sunshine could handle him. So it wasn't all bad. I did like Sunshine more, though.
The story followed Talon and Sunshine's whirlwind romance, as well as a plot to unleash an evil Atlantean god. There were lies, tricks, and a bit of action as Talon and the Dark-Hunters fought Daimons. I thought the romance did move pretty fast, and there were a bit too many love scenes, but it is understandable why.
Overall, I liked this book. It wasn't my favorite, but Sunshine made a good heroine. I really liked a lot of the characters we met in the novel. Acheron is such an enigma, and his relationship with Artemis is so messed up. Weirdly, I can't wait to read about Zarek. And Valerius...wow. His part at the end? Totally unexpected. So...I guess I kind of read this as much for the other characters as to see Sunshine and Talon get their HEA. All the Dark-Hunters I mentioned had a POV in this book, and it did drag the story down some. Without them though, I wouldn't like the characters nearly as much, I don't think. Either way, I do plan on continuing on in this world at some point.

This is the best way I can describe how I felt reading this book. I didn't read the previous books in the series, so I'm definitely at fault for feeling a little behind and lost but holy guacamole. I liked the book but trying to grasp all the characters, their identities, and all their agendas made me sweat from exhaustion.
How I imagine the author writing this. Seriously, we've got gods from EVERY mythology, paranormal beings, and bears, oh my! You know someone out there has cataloged all these characters, their connections, and biography; bless their heart.

If there was a visual of me reading this. Look, this book has been out a while and others have written amazing reviews for it, I'm not going to even attempt one. This is just all about my narcissistic need to put my feelings out there. Even with the massive amount of characters and story lines (the writing gets a little loose at times), I felt the need to hang on for the ride. There is a certain charm to characters and writing (the hero of this book, Talon, is also too hot to trot with his Celtic tattoos and general hero-ness) that kept me locked in. Our leads have the whole soulmate thing going on, so no gradual falling in love but kind of instant, they also got ignored more than I liked in favor of the overall story arcs.
I'll definitely be continuing with the series (so, there's like a dragon inside Acheron?!) and I guess just hope as more heroes/heroines get their individual stories, the books won't be as jammed packed and things will make more sense.
Or maybe I'm in for more of,

Either way, sign me up!
If you've read the series, discuss your feels and let me know if things improve/fall apart.
Thanks to Lover of Romance for the rec!
I enjoyed it but found it difficult to believe the Hero and Heroine are more than just lust. Especially since its an 'insta lust' type of 'connection'. There is a bit more to the story but don't want to provide spoilers. There are also parts that are very repetitive, internal monologue. So much so it becomes moments of "insert eye roll here" with "Oh jeez not again!".
For me, this is a pleasure read as I'm catching up on the series and I know her writing gets much better with every book. I'm looking forward to getting to know the rest of the Dark Hunters and see where things go. This is an overall okay/good read based on Goodreads ratings. I'd give it a 2.5. :)

After a few disappointing books, Sherrilyn Kenyon's back on track with the Dark-Hunter series. Full of humor, action, romance, and some deliciously warped mythology, and the hero's a Celt! Talon's not my favorite of her heroes, but this book also introduces Zarek, who's dark, sarcastic, and looks to have an intriguing past. I look forward to reading his story in the next book in the series.
I am Darkness. I am Shadow. I am the Ruler of the Night. I, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. I am the Guardian. The Soulless Keeper. Neither Human, nor Apollite, I exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead. I am the Dark-Hunter. And I am Eternal...
This book follows Talon, a Dark-Hunter who was in the previous book, Night Pleasures. If you read the it, you would know a bit about Talon's history, mainly how he became a Dark-Hunter and how tragic it was. As this book continues you learn that the act of betrayal that started his immortal life wasn't the first tragedy in his life. He always had to prove himself just to be considered, and didn't even live his human life for himself.
Then he meets Selena, the spunky artist who can't leave her house without having to turn back several times because she always forgets something. She is stubborn, tough, and used to looking out for herself, even though she doesn't have to since she has her family to watch her back and protect her as well. She intrigues Talon like no one else before and he can't stay away from her. Unfortunately he also can't seem to keep his emotions under control, and control is what makes him powerful.
...unless I find that one pure heart who will never betray me. The one whose faith and courage can return my soul to me and bring me back into the light.
Like this entire series, there is a lot of sex. But the plot line continues as a new battle has to take place if they are gonna be able to stay together. A new big bad guy(s) shows up trying to wreak destruction as usual, but Sherrilyn Kenyon always manages to keep her work from being cliche by making sure all of her characters have a great development. They have loves, and fears and they grow from the experiences in the book.
