Such an incredibly difficult journey that had me guessing until the end!
Samantha and Xavier are basically fated mates, but meeting at the wrong time!
Even though this story has an insta-love trope and I know some are not a fan of that, it wasn’t far-fetched because of how Abby described the thoughts and feelings of each character, in my opinion.
There is a lot of heavy emotional turmoil contained in this story that includes child abuse, a parent with dementia, an unexpected death, and learning to prioritize and to grow from past and current trauma.
I enjoyed the side characters in this story and the depth they brought to the pages. Xavier’s friends and coworkers and Samantha’s family had such a profound impact on how the characters developed.
There’s an ongoing long-distance relationship that Xavier and Samantha are trying to make work, but it’s a seemingly impossible situation that neither can find a way to make work. I think what I loved the most was that neither were willing to give up.
I absolutely loved the pop culture references, including Taylor Swift and ACOTAR!
Oh! And let’s not forget the found fur friends!! Jake, from State Farm, Pooter, & Pugsly absolutely made the story that much more enjoyable.
There are countless references regarding aspects of core memories and just memories in general. The story primarily revolves around Samantha’s mother who is suffering from dementia. Samantha finds herself constantly reflecting on the importance of how memories play such an intricate role in a person’s life.

I think I would consider this more of a contemp fiction rather than a romance because the sexual content was much more toned down than in some of her other books.
