*Thanks to NetGalley and Century for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* I devoured this book in under 24 hours. The premise is every parent's worst nightmare - Harriet's little girl Alice disappears from the local primary school fête when she was supposed to be being watched by Harriet's best friend, Charlotte Reynolds. A massive man-hunt is launched, but no trace of the little girl is found. As the book unfolds, more is discovered about Charlotte and Harriet's pasts and nothing is quite as it seems. A thrilling novel and I will be following this author's work closely.
Losing a child in a crowd is any parent's nightmare. Charlotte ends up living this nightmare when she loses her best friend's only child at a fair. She was watching them. When she wasn't glancing down at her phone.
As police continue to investigate the disappearance, more questions end up raised. And, Harriett finds herself forced to reach out to Charlotte for help.
This suspense novel provides plenty of twists and turns while exploring not only the nightmare of losing a child but to what lengths a mother will go to protect their child.

A very quick and engaging read for me. There are a lot of twists, and even though I had some ideas of how the story might go (some correct, some not), there was enough suspense to keep me interested. I think there could have been more development of characters/details, but overall, I could suspend belief/fill in the gaps and just go with it.
I think the blurb about the book is not quite accurate now that I've finished reading the book, so better to just go into reading it without any preconceived ideas of any of the details.
Thanks to netgalley for an advanced copy.

A taut thriller that keeps you reading to the end. It is the story of friendship, the secrets we keep and the lies we tell to protect ourselves. You could easily devour this book in one sitting and I like the way it is told from two points of view in two timeframes.
The writer draws you in to the characters and their lives, whilst spinning the web of deceit to pull you into the story. It causes you to question the truth about friendship and how well do we really know our friends lives?
Harriet leaves her little girl Alice with her friend Charlotte for the first time and Alice disappears at the school fete. As the book progresses yo realise all is not as it seems and there are secrets to be exposed. The twist is unexpected and unlike other thrillers I have read recently it has a proper end.

This book was kindly awarded to me in a Goodreads giveaway and I'm so grateful to have had a chance to read this book!
The narratives in this book are split between Charlotte and Harriet. The reader gets to know both women better, their friendship, and its strengths and weaknesses.
This book took a turn that I could not have predicted and after that, I couldn't predict the kidnapper. After figuring out the kidnapper, though, there was still quite a bit of book left and I couldn't help but feel that the ending was a bit anticlimactic.
I ended up feeling sorry for one of the characters at the end. I wasn't anticipating the depth of her feelings and it felt like she got shafted. Her entire life got upended and there wasn't really an option for her to achieve peace.
I'd recommend this to readers who enjoy a good thriller. If you read thrillers exclusively, you'll probably end up predicting the plot points and not be satisfied.

2.5 stars rounded down. I can see why some people would like this book. It was okay for me but nothing spectacular. Or maybe I have high expectations for books that I read. This would have been a good vacation read for me.
Dubbed a psychological thriller, it did have some twists and turns and questionable characters, but I never felt like I cared too much for them. I felt like there was too much filler in spots and not enough detail in others.
This book is told in alternating points of view. One is of Charlotte. The other is Harriet. The friendship of these two is put to the test when Harriet trusts Charlotte with her daughter Alice. This is the first time she has left the four-year old with anyone. While at a school fair with her own kids as well as Alice, Charlotte loses track of Alice.
The book then goes on to describe what happens following the disappearance of Alice as the police look for her and the two women deal with what happened.

Such a superb start, wonderful characters and an ominous aura of fear hovering over every chapter. Very nearly 5 stars but I just couldn’t bring myself to believe the plot. And in response to the question at the end of the book, I’m definitely #teamCharlotte
