Really pretty artwork and very effective use of colour to tell the story. The story is very simple and sweet, about sharing stories with loved ones. Definitely want to read more by Guojing.

Not completely wordless but in few words, this book tells the story of a little girl visiting her grandmother and bonding over a story of her grandmother's childhood when she rescued a baby flamingo. It's really beautiful and special and I haven't quite processed why - it's such a simple story -but I am still sitting with it. I love what the illustrator did with the story in pictures - the only thing that was confusing sometimes was the transition between flashback and present because the young version of the grandmother looked so much like her granddaughter in the present.

The Flamingo by Guojing is a beautiful, mostly wordless story about a little girl's relationship with her far away grandma and the story she tells about a flamingo that connects them. I adored this author's "The Only Child" work, so I was very excited about this new release as well when I heard of it and I was not disappointed. Guojing's art panels have this pretty, dreamlike quality to them that make you feel like you're going back in time or getting sucked in. She had a wonderful way of telling a story full of emotions simply through her images. Looking forward to more from this author!

An almost wordless graphic novel about a girl visiting her Lao Lao. While visiting, she hears a story about a flamingo befriending a girl (presumably Lao Lao). It inspired the imagination of the little girl to dream about her own flamingo journey. Stunning illustrations.

Almost no words, but surprisingly moving. The pictures are gorgeous, and the relationship between granddaughter and grandmother is delightful.

With rich emotion and beautiful art, Guojing delivers another remarkable story, this time in the nearly wordless adventures of a young girl and her grandmother celebrating the power of imagination and love to transcend distance and time.

Truly gorgeous illustrations and a magically intoxicating aesthetic. This is so short but carries such a beautiful story about the relationship between this child and their grandparent.

The artwork in this is outstanding.  I want to blow some of the pictures up on my walls and use them as pictures or background.  She has some sunset artwork that feels almost like the real thing.  They are full of pinks, orange sherbets, mauve's, and all the colors in a beautiful sunset.   Stunning, truly.

I love the Flamingo in this story.  It is so cute and then it is so majestic.   This is a wordless story and the author felt there needed to be a bit of dialogue for flashbacks, but I think it came across just find.  The way she did gray and then color made it easy to tell.  Maybe a kid needs it, but I feel the author doubted herself and the dialogue wasn't needed.  It came across what the kid was asking.

The story is a grandchild flying to her grandmothers to spend some time with her.  Her grandmother as a kid raised a flamingo she found as an egg and tells her granddaughter the story.  It sets the granddaughters imagination on fire.

I think my niece would love this story.  I'm going to see if I can get her to read it.  This reminds me of my niece.

I love they are eating Bao's and making special bird dumplings.  Great details.
