While, I am not a mom, I still found this book hilarious. I have babysat a lot and took care of my nephews and niece throughout the years. Only to watch them grow up. I know it is not the same as being a mom caring for your own children. Although, I could imagine all of the emotions that Kimberly must have been experiencing during these life moments.

So, it just goes to show you that you don't really have to be a mom to enjoy this book. Yet, you will probably enjoy this book a lot more if you are a mom. There will be so many times throughout the book that you will find yourself saying "Yes, I can relate to that".

This book would make a good book club discussion book or handed out to teenagers at sex education class. Do they even do that class anymore. Haha. Either way, this book is one to pick up.

As everyone knows Erica got way behind on her reviews....but I have to share this one because it makes a fabulous Mother’s Day Gift!

Did you grow up when your mom would push you out the door to play outside until dinner or the streetlights came on? If yes, you need this book in your life.

Can you remember riding around without a seatbelt? Sliding all over the seat, and no one cared? This book is for you too!!

@kdbwrites has written a very humorous memoir all about how the times have changed and parenting now vs. when when we were kids (I was also born in the 70s) is a whole different world! The book is laugh out loud funny, and so honest and raw that I read it in a sitting. With everyone in my house thinking I’d gone mad laughing so hard at nothing.

@kdbwrites thank you for trusting Berit and I and @letstalkbookspromo with your book, we had a blast with it!!!

Mama’s seriously read it, you'll love it, I promise!

I recently read and really enjoyed I’M A LITTLE BRAIN DEAD by Kimberly Davis Basso, so when I saw that Let’s Talk Books was doing a tour for her more recent book BIRTH AND OTHER SURPRISES, I was happy to sign up since I had the book sitting on my shelf!

Much like her previous book, BIRTH AND OTHER SURPRISES is a combination of the serious and the humorous. Kimberly shares her life experiences of birth, childhood and parenting. She covers both the positives and the struggles that go along with life in a family. The book is written with a bit of mixed media including lists, essays, poems and definitions. It is written such that you can pick it up and binge read it or open it up to a section at random.

As a parent only to a furry child, I always wonder if a book with birth in the title will be “for me”, but I didn’t need to have worried. I found this to be a very interesting and humorous read. There were sections that were very educational and places where I was laughing out loud. We had a lot of fun discussing this book in the buddy read chat as well!

This would be a fantastic Mother’s Day gift or baby shower gift – a combination parenting book and memoir that looks at life through a funny lens.

I love reading motherhood memoirs. And Kimberly's was a gem. She recalls events from her own childhood growing up in the 70's as well as her parenting experiences and how they differ. Not only was everything very relatable, but her style of writing is hilarious! I was laughing out loud multiple times throughout her book.

I think every mom should read this. It's the perfect reminder that as a mom, I am doing my best and I am doing great and that is all that matters.

A lot of parenting books are informative...but dry. This memoir was informative and FUN.
I loved how it was structured; it was written so I could pick any page at random and jump right in to a short story, a poem, a list, or a funny anecdote.

This is the book new parents need to give you the light and laugh you need during those trying times. It covers everything from finding out your pregnant to the toddler months of things I never even knew could occur, no spoilers here!

Kimberly's candidness and authenticity blew me away and I picked up a great deal of gems from this book. I can't wait to share this with my girlfriends, new and seasoned Mums!

Thank you to Kimberly Davis Basso for my gifted copy, all my opinions are honest and my own.

Oh friends, this book was great. It was fun, it was real, it was hilarious and most of all it was relatable. Birth and Other Surprises is not a parenting “how to” book, but more of a summary of being a parent in today’s society versus what it was like to be a parent in the 70’s. It’s a really fast read and I encourage you to pick it up!

Thanks for the #gifted copy @letstalkbookspromo and @kdpwrites . It was a joy to be a part of this buddy read

This book had me rolling with laughter!! A perfect gift for Mother’s Day or baby showers, through this book Kimberly takes us through the birth journey every mother goes through and it’s aftermath. Everyone can relate to the incidents that Kimberly has so amazingly penned downed. For me, as I was reading the book, I could visualize my childhood and all those stories that my mom has told me about my birth and early childhood. A hilarious take on motherhood, Birth and Other Surprises is a unique book. You can read any chapter in any pattern in the book and it’ll still make sense!
The book captured my attention from the start and the definitions that the author has provided time to time in the book had me grinning. An absolute delight, I would recommend this book to everyone who loves humor. We’ve all had similar incidences as described in the book which makes it super relatable. I was also amazed about a lot of things that were new to me. Thanks Kimberly for giving us an amazing book!

This book was such a refreshing and real look at parenting. I felt like the author was in my head a lot of the time.

Birth and Other Surprises is both a memoir of the author’s childhood in the 70s and her journey raising her own children. Her points are hilarious and so relatable! One that resonated with me is that baby is really the only one who has a birth plan, that is unless you have a planned c-section, or 4 like myself

Overall, I give this 4 stars out of 5. Basso hits the nail on the head with this one, from snot and poop to letting the house get messy while spending time with your kiddos. There’s some truths in here for all parents.

Thank you to @letstalkbookspromo for hosting such a fun discussion around this book! I loved getting to discuss parenthood with other moms!
