I don’t care what anyone says i love books with plots like these. However the way the author goes about it. Make or breaks the book. And imo it broke it. Basically the fmc cheated on him 8 years into marriage. Tells him then he starts to cheat on her for 15 years. And threatens to take everything away from her if she doesn’t stay in the marriage. The fmc decides enough is enough and divorces him.
My issue is that he has done more damage yet the whole book he was trying to forgive HER. Completely ignoring what he did. Here are some quotes.
“I didn’t sleep with anyone in our circle I would never do that to you”- bitch please.
When she asks for divorce he says “ alright Whitney” and when he finally seemed sad and I kinda felt bad for him. He went ahead and said let’s do marriage counseling. As if that will change the 15 years of cheating.
This one especially annoyed me “why can’t I forgive her?”
Please tell me he has a brain.
But like i said I enjoy books like theses. However I simply couldn’t because of how arrogant he was. Every time there moments I felt bad for him. He would say something stupid and ruin it. Every time he went one step forward and got closer to a character arc he would say something stupid and ruin it. I would like to see the fmc get with the lawyer. But as far as I know that won’t happen. 3 stars. You might think I am being generous. But I can admit I did read this book expecting a bit of it. I jdit also expected a character arc. But whatever.

Ooof! This one hit me right in the feels. Lovers (or r@ge readers) of cheating and marriage in trouble tropes will devour this.

If you’ve read Purity by @authorskymason then you’ll most definitely remember the MMC of that story’s parents. This is their book.

Whitney, the long suffering wife, has finally had enough of Mark’s blatant and shameless cheating and coldness towards her. She’s filed. She’s done. Over.

And Mark… he cannot handle.

This books coincides with events that play out in the background and POV from Cole’s book, Purity. It’s a novella so we touch briefly on their past history but it’s mainly Whitney finally filing to be free and Mark scrambling to fix things - desperately.

Those who’ve read Purity know that there’s a reason why Mark went full @$$holery… does it make them even and excuse his behaviour for the past 15 years? H3LL NO! And he knows it.

This novella no way delves into the complexities of their relationship. Mark for sure had her on a high pedestal. So when he realized that his vision of her had been tainted, she fell from it hard and boy had she been (unfairly) paying for it. Whitney…I’m so glad she finally filed although I would’ve done so when Cole caught his dad with OW (touched in his book) especially since she’s such a protective and great mother. So her final straw was understandable but not the worst she’s come across in all the years. But every woman has their limits.

This is book 1 of the duet. I can’t wait for book 2. I hope… well I think it’s unfair to pin what you hope the next book is on the author.. they will write how they see fit. But please let her get some

I love Skyler as an author but the story was just not my cup of tea. 2 star because I like the author and the dislike is my fault.

"She belongs to me, and even though I can’t forgive her, a deep primal part of me can never let her go.
She’s mine.
My love for her has always been dark and twisted like this—even before it became hate-filled love—but it’s never waned."

This read deserves my eye roll.
I would not be a fan of second-chance romance unless it were well-written.
This wasn't at all. It only got me frustrated and annoyed with the characters.

It's a short read, plotline and growth were out of the picture.
However, the characters are all unlikable.
Mark was already a dickhead. He didn't even feel bad until the last minute; at least let him grovel and work a little more complicated.

Whitney got me so angry too.
I was rooting for her. She was doing so well, but how did sex change things so quickly?
It was her weakness to him, so many eyes were closed despite their action, words and banter.

"Even when a part of me hates her, something deeper inside knows that hatred comes from love. Deep, agonizing love that even the most euphoric hatred can’t overcome. She’s everything I ever wanted in a woman. Even now, when she’s cold and distant with me, when all her warmth is for the children."

I am at a loss here.

I have never read a book that made me tear up as quick as this one did. It hit its mark, HARD.

I have never read anything from Skyler before this was a #booktok rec and I can't say that I am disappointed at all.
Whitney is on all accounts at the end of her rope and rightly so.. I could never go to the lengths that she does with Mark.
Oh Mark.. I wanted to give a swift kick to the family jewels but how Whitney handles him is even better. The saying kill em with kindness could never be more true here.
Mark is a bastard plain and simple but when his lifestyle is threatened oh boy does he want things to change.

“You’ve had my heart for twenty-three years. It took me losing yours for me to realize it, but I paid heavily, and now I don’t have any heart left. You took it from me, piece by piece. It’s gone now.”

I cannot wait to read the next part even though I just know that it is going to rip my heart out and have me sweating from my eyes. I fully accept that.

Until then.. I will wonder what happens with Whitney & Mark

She had an affair 15 years ago and when her husband found  out, he punished her all those years by constantly cheating on her. This book leads to the divorce part.
