While not exactly a deep book, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. One star should probably go to the excellent narration of David Tenant - he really brings it to life. Still, it's another witty, funny irreverent romp through Cowell's viking world.

This book is mostly more of the same, with a few new twists. The introduction packs a little less punch than it might, but once it gets going, the plot is fun, and in some ways has a more serious heart than other books in the series.

While the style of the books is very enjoyable, I am getting a little annoyed at some of the things that never seem to change, in spite of everything that has happened. Toothless is equally snotty and disobedient, no matter how much Hiccup is supposed to be better at dragon wrangling than everyone else. Snotfaced Snotlout still thinks Hiccup is a good for nothing loser, despite all of Hiccups previous heroics. And Hiccup himself never seems to gain much self confidence (though that seems a little better in this book than in some of the others.

This book is another enjoyable run through the same world as the previous books. If you liked those, you'll like this one. If you didn't like How To Train Your Dragon, you won't like this one either.

My favourite so far.

Hiccup is really coming into his own and toothless is also fun and growing.

The addition of these new characters really add to the story.

These books keep getting better and better. I think they are definitely enhanced by listening to the audio versions. David Tennant does an amazing job and really brings life to the characters. I love how whiny Toothless is!

You will be glad to know that while other people are working on a Tuesday morning like normal, responsible adults, I was holed up in the library silently laughing at jokes in children's literature because I don't have a proper job.
"My congratulations," growled One Eye to Hiccup, as he pulled them rapidly forwards. "You are the first Human I have ever met who uses his brain and not just his muscles."

Anyway, Cowell has done it again. The How to Train Your Dragon series never fails to deliver a hopeful, heartwarming tale that leaves you seeing rainbows and stardust everywhere.

Like many of its counterparts, the story reminds us to believe in ourselves, and that the tiniest of people CAN make a difference. I feel How To Cheat a Dragon's Curse is one of the more emotionally charged instalments as it deals with themes of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice. There were times I was close to tearing but held myself back because it was a socially inappropriate thing to do in public, but otherwise, yes, I would have sobbed quietly because my heart is as weak as a piece of one-ply tissue.
"But that's blackmail!" protested Hiccup.

"You see," grinned Camicazi, "we Bog-Burglars have no morals at all. It's very useful to us."

On top of the adorableness of Toothless and Hiccup, Camicazi is definitely a brilliant inclusion to the team. She's badass. She's funny. I like her.

Loved reading this series, Hiccup, and Toothless are so adorable. The storyline is dramatic, the characters are silly and the language is funny, what else do you ask for in a children’s novel? I'm gonna keep reading.
In this story, Hiccup is on a quest with Camicazi and Toothless to search for the vegetable-that-no-one-dares-name, so that he could save his friend Fishleg, will they succeed? Read on!

3.5 stars

Read my whole review at Book Obsession

We read about two-thirds of this together, and then the 7yo finished it while I dozed off. So I'm getting the next book a little before I'd intended.

Still a fun, funny adventure. We're both enjoying it.

All my reviews in this series are starting to sound the same… but in this case, it’s a good thing! This account in the life of Hiccup is just as fun and exciting as the ones that come before it! Hiccup sets out to find a secret cure to the deadly Vorpentitis disease that his best friend, Fishlegs, seems to have caught. As always, it’s a long shot at best, but Hiccup is up to the task! A harebrained scheme or two, and an unlikely antidote in the form of a mythical vegetable, and the return of Camicazi set the stage for an exhilarating adventure! I got this as part of my Audiobook collection, and David Tennant manages yet again, to bring this story to life in such a fun, and unique way! Very much recommended!
