This is probably 3.5 stars for me. I didn't care about Julia, at all, but I think that was probably the point. Focusing on Marissa, watching her change, was a fun journey. At more than one point, her self observances could have been my own, which I'm sure heightened her likability for me.

3.5. Enjoyed this all the way to the end. Which then felt rushed and unsatisfactory.

This book gripped me from the start. I related so much to Marissa with her fierce loyalty to her friend, despite the sacrifices she had to make in order to maintain the friendship. Also, knowing so many people who have had wonderfully similar experiences with Girls on the Run, I loved reading about Marissa's growth through being a coach. The story could have easily been just about Marissa and Julia and their struggles to get through the accident, but it was so much more deep with the relationships explored between Marissa and her boyfriend and also Marissa and her family. I read this book in 1 sitting, and highly recommend it.

One of the best books I've read this year. Each character is rich with layers, and Pagan's writing immediately pulls you and won't let go.

How far would you go for your best friend? In The Art Of Forgetting Julia and Marissa are best friends and have been since high school. Julia has always been the one who seems to be in control of the friendship while Marissa is the loyal friend who follows behind. When Julia is involved in an accident, she sustains a brain injury which changes her. Will their friendship be able to survive the trauma that changes the balance of their relationship?

I must admit that I thought this book would be more about Julia and her recovery and the role her injury would play in the friendship between Julia and Marissa. The story was more about Marissa, who seems to have always played second fiddle to Julia. With Julia's injury, Marissa has to be the friend who is alpha. Marissa is not so sure she likes the new role as she has always been the follower.

I admired Marissa in this book for not only stepping up to the plate when she needed to but for also forgiving and knowing when it is time to move on and when to stay. I was not a huge fan of Julia before or after her brain injury. To tell you the truth, she kind of got on my nerves. I thought she was a bit self centered, both before and after the accident.

This is a great book about friends, relationships, family, forgiveness and moving forward. I highly recommend it. It would also make a good book for group discussion.

This is a debut book for Camille Noe Pagan and it does not disappoint. The story is as graceful and beautiful as it's cover!

This was the first Camille Pagan book I couldn’t get into. It read like the very freshman debut novel it was. I couldn’t stand the tone of the girls, as others mentioned it is very Mean Girls and quite honestly it brought back some awful memories for me of an incredibly toxic friendship I had during the ages of 12-23. I always enjoy the Ann Arbor references in Pagan’s books, but I decided that I had to just call it quits on this one after skimming my way through half of it. I much prefer her other works, most notably, Life and Other Near Death Experiences.

I had this book on my To Be Read list for years and was so excited to find it on Kindle Unlimited this year. I had high hopes and perhaps I was expecting too much.

It's a sweet book. It really is. But it's not subtle at all and I found the signposting quite hard to stomach at times.

I didn't mind it and it was an easy read. I think perhaps my expectations were just out of sync.

I enjoyed reading this book, and I find the idea of it very interesting. It ended differently than I had expected, which I liked. I am a fan of a good love story just like the next girl, but I liked how this novel was not a Cinderella story. It was about making tough decisions, and it seemed more realistic to me, which was nice.
