Maddie is a high school senior who has everything planned, from study group times to which college she'll attend. On her 18th birthday the minimart attendant convinces Maddie to buy a lottery ticket for the super jackpot. Maddie ends up winning the jackpot and takes home $33 million. In addition to some struggles at home, the kids at school start to treat her differently, and even her closest friends start to distance themselves. But Seth, her zoo coworker, doesn't seem to know about her new found fortune and treats her like he always has. Her crush on him continues to grow as she starts to question who she can trust.

Kasie West does it again - a sweet love story mixed with normal teen scenarios (well, as normal as a teen winning the lottery can be). All the characters are believable and you find yourself hoping Maddie can figure everything out in her life and with her money.

Sooooooooo cute!
lighthearted

I hate to say it but....this is probably my least favorite Kasie West book. Usually, I ADORE them and devour every word up until the very last page but this time, I found it hard to even finish it. I don't know if the storyline was just too unrelatable or if the characters (Maddie and Seth excluded) were just that awful. The only part I truly enjoyed was the romance and everything else was just frustrating to the point where I took SEVERAL day long breaks. The ending was adorable though...even though we never really got closure on everything outside the ship. Do her parents get counseling? Does her brother ever get help for his obvious gambling problem? Does Elise ever apologize? We spent so long on these storylines and never got ANY closure. It's almost as frustrating as the book itself.

In typical Kasie West fashion, this book is cuuuuuuuuuute.

I really liked the concept of this one, because... I mean, what do you do when you win the lottery? I liked how Maddie tried to be responsible about it, because she's a very plan-oriented brainiac much like myself. But I think it's heartbreakingly realistic how everyone, even her own family, tries to take advantage of her. I mean, when you have $30 million (or know someone who has that much money), it's easy to lose perspective.

Seth was adorable, and I liked the romance, though there wasn't that much focus placed on it.

Ultimately, this is my least favorite Kasie West book till now - but that's just because the bar with all the others is set so incredibly, unimaginably high. This one was a bit more predictably dramatic than the rest, and because the romance wasn't the focus, it was a bit less feelsy. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it was an absolute breeze to read and very entertaining.

Kasie West typically releases cuter and dearer books than Lucky in Love, but it was still okay. I use these sweet and uncomplicated books as palate cleansers, of sort. I don't have to think too hard, the plot isn't complex—they are just nice, cozy comfortable stories.

The story was a little lacking here. I feel like the springboard idea was interesting (a just-turned eighteen year old wins the lottery and, of course, finds love in the course of the events), but the rolls, tucks, and flips that came between the beginning and the end were a little too thin and light, even for this light YA romance.

Nostalgia plays a heavy role in my enjoyment of these books by West. Aside from the sweetness of the stories (usually) and the easy read they provide, they remind me of my eleven or twelve year old self, reading the hand-me-down copies of the Sweet Dreams Series and other books I'd order from those book club order forms (Troll, Apple, etc.) during elementary and middle school.

Wow. Kasie West does it again! I love her books sooo much- they're always so perfect and exactly what I need. <3

Not my favorite Kasie West, but still cute. Felt a little unresolved in the end and a bit open ended.

2.5/5

I had high hopes for this, after reading a few of West’s other books, but this one had me cringing and feeling anxious for a majority of the story, and my enjoyment definitely suffered from that.
