This is a story written by a woman but told by a man, and there's a couple of different stories within the story about women that are also told by men. This is kind of a fundamental problem that I have with the book, because it's always framed through a different lens. I don't know if the story could work with just women, but I definitely would have preferred it.

The book also hypes up the mysterious plot as being the greatest story ever, which it definitely isn't. I really think this could've worked for the basis, but doesn't hold up at all for a full novel. I just wasn't interested in any of the main characters and nothing invested me until the end.

I'm really late to the party on this one, but I think that may have been beneficial, as I didn't really have much to go on when I started reading. I rather enjoyed the book-within-a-book aspect, and though I figured out the twists earlier than I was likely meant to, it was still great to see how it was all revealed within the pages and what that ultimately meant for the characters and their story as a whole. Hopefully it won't take me four years before I finally get around to reading The Sequel

Not my favorite. Don’t care about the characters, and didn’t realllyyy keep me interested. The ending was cool tho.
