Tbh it’s getting a bit unnecessarily slow from book to book. But enjoyable anyway.

Did I guess the killer? No I did not. That’s why it got 3 stars instead of 1. The first half just seemed like the authors soap box of what was going on in her life and not in a good way. It really detracted from the story. It starts to die down and we get to the actual story. By far my least favorite of the series. Also, we don’t need a chapter about him overusing his leg in every book. I promise we will still remember he only has one leg.

I do not stand by J.K Rowling, nor do I agree with any of her politics.

Filled with familiar characters and themes for fans of the series. Clocking in at just over 1000 pages, I found it a slog and frustrating. I really do like the characters of Strike and Robin, but that might be the only thing that git me through.

The writing needed editing. It felt like everyone involved in the main case and minor cases were horrible. Misogynistic, self centered, money hungry, or just obnoxious and I don't mean just the villains. Strike and Robin's personal stories don't advance significantly and thought thier group at the agency grows readers don't really get to know any of those characters better.

Unless you are a die hard fan of the series or Rowling, pass on this one.

Been putting this off because of the page count, but it was another solid mystery for Cormoran Strike. There were so many moving parts to this one which made for great plot twists.I was very invested in the story and read it very quickly.

But all of that to say, I still think this could have been edited down significantly.

I need less...
- Inner dialogue from Strike and Robin about how they feel about each other. We get it.
- Lengthy descriptions of Strike's leg pain. I know it's crucial for the detective to have a weakness, but it's been six books worth and I feel weighed down. Though I am glad there seems to be a new path forward for this particular plot point.
- Tweets, moderator chats, interview transcripts. Some of these things can be summarized. It's just soooo much detail that it becomes way too much work for me to try to figure things out on my own. I don't feel like keeping up with all of it, which takes some of the fun out of it.
