The movie was awesome but gosh this book was frustrating

kayla_happypie's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 40%

Found myself getting so bored and skimming portions. The idea was cute and I’m sure at the end when they finally get together I would have liked it but it was way too long.  Also with the format of it, it was too much like whining and not enough actually connection between the characters. Also there were quite a few fat phobic comments šŸ˜’

I thought the concept of a book containing messages, emails and letters would be a good idea to read but that stopped once I realised there would be 500 pages of it.

Spoiler: 50 years oh my goodness...what

Another chick-lit-London type book. I'm sensing a theme here with my book choices.

Book is all in letters and emails. It is a good story, a little predictable. A nice quick read.

Ok Ok Ok.
Ohh boy do I have a lot to say about this.
Okay I'll just get the nitty gritty part out first- I hated Rosie and Alex for the first 3/4 of the book. Like, a lot. I'm really not exaggerating. I HATED them. I think I threw the book across the room like three times when Rosie said she wasn't actually moving. I was actually so mad. I'm not a mother, so I won't pretend to know that what she did was TECHNICALLY the right thing, but I was SO. FUCKING. MAD.

also like.. the characters have a lotta internalized misogyny (and they portray it as a joke like 'woohoo! this woman's a slut) and this thing is something I have noticed in her other book (One Hundred Names or smth like that) too. I did NOT like those parts at all.

I'll stop the things I hate here. Ok.

THIS BOOK WAS FUNNY AS HELLLL
GENUINELY. IT'S SO FUNNY. I LAUGHED SO MUCH
And I ADORE (most) of the characters. they're all so *them* and unique. I truly love them. and this book. did I hate this book at the start? yes. but did I end up loving it at the end? yes. will I keep reading Cecelia Ahern books? probably.

anyway, read it till the end- its worth it.

*AKA LOVE, ROSIE IN THE UNITED STATES* I have REALLY mixed feelings about this one. I loved the writing style and the way it was written (in letters, emails and IM's), but it was so FRUSTRATING and it literally took
Spoiler50 YEARS
for them to finally USE THEIR BRAINS AND JUST TELL EACH OTHER HOW THEY FEEL! It was SO ANNOYING. And then at the end,
Spoileryou didn't even get to see them be together, which is what I was waiting for! I NEEDED SOMETHING, EVEN JUST A KISS, BUT NOOOOOOOOO.
I don't know. I enjoyed it, but I didn't????

I really enjoyed this. I thought I might not because the story is told through e-mails and chats, but it worked for me. It was a nice enjoyable book about two best friends and their lives from when they were young till they were 50.
Spoiler It just makes me so frustrated it took so long for them to get it together, if you just communicated it would all have worked out way sooner, but I guess that's the point.
