В этом году мне прям везет на книги!
Я потом уже прочитал, что этот роман сам Мо Янь рекомендует для знакомства со своим творчеством, так что выбрал я правильно.
Замечательная книга по всем фронтам. Тут и история становления коммунистического Китая, и знакомство с культурой страны, и герои, которым сочувствуешь, и элементы сказки, и само повествование очень интересно подано - два рассказчика, присутствие самого Мо Яня. В общем, крайне рекомендую - удовольствие от прочтения гарантировано.

An absolute unit. There were some gripping moments and some pretty decent humor, but I feel like there wasn't that much in-depth criticism or well-crafted parallels with historical events like it's marketed to be. Also I feel like it'd be better in Chinese but I don't know if I care enough to go back and read it untranslated LOL.

Dass ich Mo Yan's Überdruss am 7. Januar 2019 begann zu lesen und am 6. Juni desselben Jahres damit fertig wurde, spricht für sich selbst. Es ist das erste Buch dieses Jahr, von dem ich behaupten kann, es ausgelesen zu haben. Eine Tragödie! Ein einziges Buch innerhalb eines halben, faktisch kläglichen Jahres [...] Ich hoffe, die Zukunft sieht rosiger aus ...
Der Überdruss ist meiner temporären Ressourcenverteilung nicht ganz unähnlich - sowohl Fluch wie auch Segen. Es ist vorzüglicher Lesestoff, der mit seinem overacting, quasi seiner Theatralik, seinem surrealen Timbre, der politischen Tiefe, dieser bekloppten Vulgärsprache und allen damit einhergehenden absurden Momenten äußerst beeindrucken kann!
Aber es zieht sich - teils elendig in die Länge. Tolstoi fesselt, weil er realistisch schrieb und man tatsächlich Teil der Geschichte wurde. Mo Yan versucht, diesen bindenden Effekt einzufangen, scheitert jedoch. Und das ist besonders schade, da es dem Überdruss gewissermaßen an - so etwas wie - charakterlicher Quintessenzialität mangelt, wohingegen die Idee der steten Wiedergeburt eigentlich allerbeste Voraussetzungen mitliefert. So amüsant und originell, durchaus auch obskur und frech einzelne Fragmente des Romans sein mögen, mir fehlte in nicht wenigen Momenten das verbindende Element, der rote Faden, ja, die Metaebene, an welcher sich der eigentliche Protagonist, Ximen Nao, während seiner zyklischen Mehrfachlebensgeschichte entlanghangelt.
Nichtsdestotrotz ist Der Überdruss ein durchaus faszinierender und in seiner Schrulligkeit definitiv unterhaltender Roman, der mit viel Witz das gesellschaftliche China seit der Kulturrevolution faktisch karikiert.
Oh, Sekunde, ist China nicht dieser ultrakommunistische Isolationskomplex, in welchem jeder Systemkritiker sofort in die Folterkammer gesperrt wird? Nun, mit Mo Yan (eigentlich Guan Moye) und seinen reizend ketzerischen Exkursen hat's einen, der sowohl Vorzeigeschreiberling wie auch Literaturnobelpreisträger ist. Sehr interessant ...

“Extreme joy begets sorrow”
Em “Life and Death are wearing me out” Mo Yan acompanha a vida do núcleo familiar Ximen, ao passo que a China passa por transformações políticas.
O livro traz como protagonista Ximen Nao, senhor de terras executado em 1950 pelo governo chinês. A história é bastante atrelada aos conflitos internos do país, o que deixa a trama contextualizada temporalmente. O karma faz com que ele retorne à vida (algumas vezes! Kkk) sob a perspectiva de diferentes seres vivos. Os sentidos diferentes de cada animal controem narrativas distintas! Muito incrível mesmo.
As índoles dos personagens (que são muito profundos!!! Parece q conhecemos eles há mil anos kkk) variam conforme o período, refletindo o comportamento da sociedade naquele tempo. Uma história maravilhosa, na qual percebemos o sofrimento animal e do ser humano.
O autor mostra os caminhos tortuosos da vida através da beleza da tragédia. Acho que vale muito a pena ler! Chorei horrores preparem o core

Tardé demasiado en leer éste libro. No porque las más de 700 paginas sean un numero demasiado abultado sino más bien porque se me hizo necesario el paladear el transcurso de las muchas vidas de Ximen Nao, aun cuando Mo Yan o su traducción, no sean necesariamente geniales a la hora de la elaboración de frases o de su misma literatura, la historia que concibe lo es en demasía.
50 años en la historia de una familia en la China comunista desde el punto de vista de un terrateniente que es muerto en la reforma agraria y se ve reencarnado consecutivamente en burro,buey,cerdo,perro, mono y finalmente en un niño con una deformidad en su cabeza, más siempre conservando la memoria de sus vidas pasadas y atado indefectiblemente a los azares de su grupo social inicial.
La idea es original como pocas y a su vez está contada de una forma sumamente atractiva. Los pesares, las alegrías, caídas en desgracia, etc. Todos se enriquecen con el punto de vista que tiene el narrador al no ser siempre éste humano. Se extraña eso si una mirada desde otro genero, ya que siempre tenemos una visión de mundo netamente masculina; un rasgo que se percibe más que por imposibilidad, por la carga de machismo cultural propio del autor, como del mismo paraje que describe en su obra.
Un libro de tiro largo de esos que detallan con cierta fantasía largos periodos de tiempo de un grupo humano (más parecido a [book:Cien años de soledad|370523] que a [book:El siglo de las luces|34120273] ). Hay trechos ,por otro lado, en que al ser narrado por un animal el texto ahonda un poco más en situaciones fantásticamente entretenidas: la reunión de perros (símil a 'Un sueño de un millar de gatos en Sandman escrito por Neil Gaiman), la banda de cerdos salvajes son momentos en que todo se siente más cercano a esa magia cruel que siempre está presente en la naturaleza más salvaje.
Por otro lado la crueldad para con los personajes y sus azares sigue tan presente como en '[book:Las baladas del ajo|16081195]' del mismo autor.
Un libro súper recomendable que probablemente relea en un -no tan- corto plazo.
"Nuestro cuerpos parecían flotar y salir por la ventana, ascendiendo hasta la luna,dejando en la lejanía las luces de infinitas lamparas y el suelo purpura. Y allí vimos a mamá, a Hezuo, a Huang Tong, a Qiuxiang, a la madre de Chunmiao, a Ximen Jinlong, a Hong Taiyue. a Ximen Bai...Todos ellos se encontraban sentados a lomos de pájaros blancos,volando hacia un vacío que no podíamos ver.Hasta el brazo perdido de Ma Gaige, oscuro como una anguila, los seguía en su despertar."

This was a fantastic book, start to finish. Before I even picked it up, I was immediately drawn in by the premise. It did not disappoint.
The synchronization between Ximen Nao's transformations and contemporary events in China created a brilliant narrative which sucked me in from the beginning. The prose featured precise details and beautiful descriptions of even the simplest items, poetic at times. I can't even remember the number of times I got chills down my spine during its course. Mo Yan's constant insertions into the story were both hilarious and insightful, colouring an oftentimes bleak landscape, both literally and symbolically!
As other reviewers have stated, the perfect description part-Animal Farm, part-100 Years of Solitude, set in China. As both a history lover and literature lover, this was a near-perfect book for me. I will definitely be picking up some of his other work.

I've got to say that this was such a strange book. It follows Lord Ximen Nao who gets executed during the Red Revolution so that people could divide the land among farmers. Part of the story follows Lan Lian, Ximen's ex-servant who is an independent farmer despite the community pressuring him to be a commune farmer.
We see this through Ximen Nao's eyes as a Donkey and Ox. The other lives were as a Monkey, Pig and Dog which follows Lan Lian's sons and grandson more closely. I've got to agree with the other reviewer Fishface, there is just so much mention of dick in this novel that it's just not that great. I get all the balls mentions with the medicinal properties with that one character but it's just very gratuitous.
I really enjoyed the Donkey and Ox chapters, particularly the stubbornness of the Ox that stayed put even when a fire blazed. Stars off for the other likes ahaha. He sure did have a lofty sense of self in all the lives where he became a defacto leader as a Pig and Dog. I liked Ximen Dog but Lan Lian's sons really disappointed me.
I thought Lan Lian's death was fitting for Taoism, do not mourn because he will return to the chaotic mass and be reborn somehow.
