DNF’d 40% in.

The characters are infuriating in their behavior and that comes down to the writing.

This book was not what I wanted when I was looking for a marriage in trouble book. One of the many reasons why I didn't love this book was they didn't talk to each other about things that as a person that's been in a long term relationship I would tell my partner even if we were in a rough spot. It just mad me a little angry. But another reason I didn't love this was because of how the FMC acted. She was not good enough for the MMC.

These characters need to work on themselves before they work on each other. It made this book extremely unbelievable and unenjoyable because second chance marriage tropes obviously need to incorporate self-growth. This book did not.

There aren't many books that have the second chance marriage trope, so I was excited to read this book. The initial concept of the book and perhaps 50 pages kept me wanting more. But as the book progressed, it was the same thing every chapter and it became boring. Not to mention the FMC was toxic to the point that it made her husband think he had to change himself in order to be what she wanted. What the heck? And the fact that her sister stopped talking to her and didn't invite her to her wedding because she missed her plane? Come on. This was not an enjoyable read, and I can't believe I actually finished it.

I rarely give 1 star ratings, and this book is lucky I gave it even that. I felt like I had to give it something since I finished it afterall.

“i listen carefully, searching her words for ways of understanding the eliza who is my wife. instead, i start to feel like i’m studying astrophysics by memorizing the constellations.”

“i want to give it everything. like unpacking until one in the morning. like getting engaged because you just know you can't imagine life without the woman sitting on the couch in your new living room.”

“i search her expression, wishing, wondering. if i hope hard enough, i can halfway convince myself she's starting to build bridges over the ocean.”

“he isn't laughing, but when he smiles, somehow i know it's him. the real him. i smile back, a stolen, shared moment. like performers meeting backstage in the theater of our own lives.”

“i find myself hanging on to every word of Eliza's description of why the paella is at the very top of her list. it’s funny how infatuation turns every conversation into one you want to remember for the rest of your life, no matter how insignificant the details.”

“concert violinists have bowed their instruments with grace outdone by the way graham's fingers touch me.”

“in my head, i keep seeing the way her face lit up the more i asked what she loved about her job. it was—magical. like spinning thread from the fabric of our lives into gold. i should have asked her those questions every day just to see her react the way she did, the gleam in her eyes.”

loved it, the whole saving marriage, trying again stuff, a sucker for those. Aaanndr it had DUAL POV!! Love that, cherry on top 🤌🏽🍒

I do think the ending was a bit unsatisfactory tho, the epilogue was nice & cute but quite simple - u could say the ending & epilogue were a portrayal of what real life romance in marriage looks like, its not all grand and everything for ur regular people. But i do think with the way their whole issue was dragged out thru the whole book,  the resolution was gonna be longer,  more about getting deep in the vulnerabilities, a sort of invigorating intimate confession & talk and romantic moment about it lol. Defo there were some scenes were i was able to imagine better than the book - like the stargazing moment. That had so much romantic potential. I feel like some parts were described too extensively than required, got a lil bored - like when they enter the rooftop for the wine tasting.

Nonetheless i did like it bc of the premise of the plot & dual pov, how the characters see and describe each other. That was a huge carrier for me. Easy to read. If u dont hold these tropes as closely 💞 as I do, would probs jus be an a nice digestible enjoyable lighthearted read

hated how graham kept over thinking that he wasn't good enough, wasn't fun or interesting enough for her to stay with him cause all his insecurities felt like looking through a mirror. felt it in the bones when he said he felt like a fraud who somehow convinced ppl to love him
but anyway enjoyed this so much, they're my new parents <33
