Gripping and terrifying.

Magical.

Surprisingly gripping.

Fascinating concept, moderately entertaining, but definitely not inspiring of deeper thinking and too many uses of phrases like "we came to know later..." or "at the time we didn't realize how..." but then never wrapped up "later."
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

I liked that this book made you think about what if... It's written from the stand point of a 6th grade girl and the writing style definitely reflects that. At times the story feels a little bit choppy and things that you might think are worth a little bit more time on are briefly touched on a quickly forgotten (much like how a stereotypical teenager's mind might work). A quick read. Fast paced. And keeps you wondering what's going to happen next.

I read this book more than a year ago and it still haunts me.

Easy read, and I couldn't put it down. Be warned: it's covered in a blanket of depressing ominousness.

In this coming-of-age tale, the world is slowing down--literally. The earth is spinning more and more slowly on it's axis. Although the physical effects of this process are discussed in the novel, the book centers more so is the emotional effects. How do relationships survive such uncertain times? I particularly liked that one of the supporting characters is Mormon and her family up and moves to Utah as soon as the announcement is made that the earth is slowing--only to move back after they realize that the earth isn't actually ending :)
