I usually love Colleen Hover's books. I can't put them down they are so addictive. While this book was still a pager turner it also felt like a bad after school special for depression.
As someone who has actually dealt with depression, for a the last 9 years, I feel her solutions are too simple, easy and unrealistic. I believe she wrote this from the right place. From a place where she wanted to help and bring awareness to serious issues like depression. But to do this I feel she lost some of the magic that usually exists in her book and did really shine the light on depression the way it deserved. The main character's problems were to easy to solve.

When I saw this book I didn't even bother reading the blurb before I jumped right into the story. Colleen Hoover is starting to become one of my favorite authors.
Without Merit focuses on family issues and depression. This year, there have been a lot of issues about depression and suicide. I liked how this book highlighted those issues. Merit's story was relatable, and I liked her character. Yes, there were times when I wanted to yell at her, but her character was just someone I could sympathize with.
Honestly, I didn't expect to like this book so much. I finished it within 6 hours (started at midnight and finished at 6am) with tears streaming down my face. The book teaches it's readers the value of empathy and not judging others. It also teaches us the importance of reaching out to people and taking mental health seriously.
Thank you Colleen Hoover for another touching novel.

I always enjoy Hoover's writing style. This one was easy to read and had good messages about family secrets and communication.
This book was painful to get through. While I’ve never thought Colleen Hoover was fabulous at building lovable characters, these ones are by far the worst I’ve ever read. The story felt weird and incredibly insensitive toward some very serious topics (trigger warning).
Honestly, I don’t even know how I managed to finish it. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone—no one should ever read this.

I have yet to read a book by this author that hasn't touched or resonated with me on some level, I'm yet to be disappointed by CoHo With quirky characters, and subject matters that break the mould, she has the power to captivate her audience and draw you in like a bee to honey. Ultimately wether we admit it or not, we all want to find a place to fit in, maybe not in the conventional sense but in a physical sense, just the need to belong. Some prefer their own company to the company of others, exclusion or inclusion, but we also want to have a connection to someone or something that makes us feel less alone. This is a journey of Merit, not really knowing where she fits in with her family or in the grand scheme of things in general. I found myself rooting for her, seeing in her my more vulnerable younger self. I can honestly say only a handful of authors have the ability to literally touch the essence of my soul with only one line, and she is without a doubt one of them. Bravo Colleen Hoover, Bravo
I just want to say that if one of the main characters isn't named Merit, I'll be disappointed. :-)
ETA: YAAASSSS! Her name IS Merit! And our Hero's name is Sagan? Amazing.
