I knew from the very beginning with the premise of Emerson Knight dealing with a missing island that this would be one hell of an adventure story. Evanovich delivers yet again! I found myself laughing out loud throughout the book. What I did not know and surprisingly enjoyed was all I accidentally learned about volcanoes. The thoroughness with which Evanovich researches for comedic mystery fiction is delightful and appreciated.

Yet again I have to say .. it’s a fun light hearted action packed story. Along the way you learn a few things about lava, volcanoes, and a wee bit of science.

Good times.

It was an interesting story, just very predictable and a little on the nose

Got this book at the library, read the audio version.
Dangerous Minds is book 2 in the “mind” series, but you do not have to read them in order, tho you may want to, so you know how they met. Riley Moon was working for a bank, but then Emerson Knight hired her as his assistant. In this case they were helping a friend, Wayan Bagans(sp), who is a Monk. He had his island stolen by some bad guys. So, Riley, Emerson and Vernon(Emerson’s Cousin) goes out on an adventure to find the island. They end up at National Yellowstone Park, then they go to Hawaii. There is a powerful secret in those volcanoes, that they have to figure out what and how that secret is being used.

I just loved this book, it was so intriguing. I usually don’t listen to an audio all the way thru in one sitting, but this one I did. It’s a little over 4 hours. The characters are such a hoot, especially Vernon. I was impressed with the details, I never been to Yellowstone, but I could picture everything, tho some parts I wish I couldn’t. You just never know what is hidden behind all that beauty. There’s a little romance too, nothing too graphic, tho there is some nakedness, so if that bothers you, just be warned. I think my favorite character is Emerson, he’s an eccentric billionaire who’s extremely smart. Oh, and there is a great twist at the end, blew me away, which doesn’t happen often. I think this would make an awesome movie.

The audio part: I”m not sure why Lorilei King reads all the books, I mean how many characters can she keep up with? That’s a lot of books. She does the Charmed series as well as the Plum series. In fact, I kept hearing Lula instead of Vernon. But, other than that, I thought she did a pretty good job with the characters.

Just a headsup, this is not a cozy mystery like some of the others she wrote.

I've never read Evanovich before and I this wasn't a good start. I was looking for something short and light to cleanse the palate. This did serve that purpose but the com part of the romcom was juvenile and not funny. I'm not going to read anymore of this series but will try other books from Evanovich before I write her off.

Emerson and Riley are just another version of Fox & O'Hare. The series isn't bad I just hope it goes somewhere besides misfit city....

Reread: (2022)I'm bumping this up to four stars. I enjoyed it a lot more this time.

Original Review: (2018)

Cute. Probably make a great movie.

All in all, I was disappointed. Emerson is still charmingly eccentric, Riley still kicks butt, and Vernon is...well Vernon. They find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy theory that only someone as outrageous as Emerson could possibly stumble across.

I loved the first book in this series, the first book by Evanovich that’s captured my interest since I stopped reading the Plum series. I was really excited for this book. I can’t quite put my finger on why this one missed the mark. I kept putting it down after reading a few pages and had to force myself to finish.

This book wasn’t co-written like the first. Maybe what Dangerous Minds needed was Phoef Sutton. I hope she returns for any future releases.
