DID NOT FINISH: 40%

I didn’t enjoy the male romantic interest and Verity’s kind of immediate trust of him where she shows him the location of several monster while he’s a monster hunter and she has no guarantee that he won’t hunt these people down and kill them later. People that trust Verity. I know I'm not supposed to take it that seriously but, still /:

I really enjoy Verity as a character and the world we are introduced to as well. I hope to read this book through someday.

#86. REALLY fun. Like Buffy fun. Looking forward to more.

Once again, McGuire has managed to create a fascinating world within our own, only this time, instead of the Fae, we have cryptids -- monsters and non-humans (think Sasquatch) -- extra dimensions, and the potential for a dragon. (I'm a sucker for dragons.) The characters are bright and witty, and I'm almost certain Verity and Toby would be great fighting companions if those worlds ever collided. The premise is interesting, the mystery sucks you in, and McGuire pulls no punches with action and danger.

Note: I have also been reading the short stories that give the history of the Healy-Price family. There are inside references between the two, but you don't need one to understand the other.

From McGuire's site: introduces us to Verity Price, journeyman cryptozoologist, ballroom dancer, and former reality television star. She's on assignment in Manhattan, researching the local cryptid community while she pursues her dance career. It's a cushy job...at least until local cryptids start disappearing, and all signs start pointing to a man from the Covenant of St. George. But is Dominic De Luca really to blame? And if she casts her suspicions in the wrong place, is she going to survive the experience?

My review: Enjoyable story. Now that I've finished it I want to read the next one. It was slow going at first for me but I soon got sucked into the life of Verity (Very) and her running across rooftops in Manhattan. Very starts out the story working in "Dave's Fish and Strips" strip club as a server. You find out pretty quick that she's working with some interesting cryptids. She uses her dancing as training for her journeyman and cryptozoologist side of her life since her family has been in hiding from the Covenant for quite some time.

I love The October Daye series so when I saw that Seanan had another series starting I knew I would be begging to get my hands on a copy. Seanan does not disappoint in the first book in her new InCryptid series.

I found Verity to be entertaining, strong willed, and quite unexpectedly bad ass. She works as a waitress at a strip club, patrols and keeps the monsters in line in her territory, and cuts a rug whenever she gets a chance competing in ballroom dancing competitions. The price family was fascinating to learn about. They grow up training to be Cryptozoologists and fight on the opposite side of the monster killing Covenant of St. George. Every single one of the family has their own talents and I loved reading about what they can do and enjoy best.

Verity gets unexpected help from a member of the Covenant when woman in her city start going missing. Dominic lives and breaths the Covenant but Verity and what she has to say throw his beliefs into a tailspin. I thought they worked very well together and I enjoyed watching them fight their attraction for each other in one breath and putting their hands all over each other in another. They will definitely be fun to watch in book 2.

There was a great amount of action throughout the book. The cast of characters was vast and imaginative. The plot was fun and I had a great time reading the book from start to finish. OH and I cant forget the mice colony. Who would have thought of that?!? lmao, them and their holidays cracked me up. MIDNIGHT BLUE-LIGHT SPECIAL is scheduled for March of 2013.
