Meg was a total blast to read during shark week. While there were points of absurdity in character motivation and development, the hard science and intense imagery of the Meg won the day. Meg is a great mix of pulpy action, B-movie stunts, and cryptozoology. Great stuff, and I look forward to reading The Trench next summer, along with checking into Alten's other books like The Loch and Undisclosed.

Pretty typical for a late '90s thriller. Good action, but mildly sexist, mildly racist; so many unnecessary and repeated ethnic descriptors! Similar to Jaws, I find the movie much more enjoyable than the book.

I should probably rate the book 3.5 stars. It's an incredibly unbelievable book... But isn't that what reading is sometimes about? Just to escape to another world? This book certainly does that. Cheese and some more cheese. Oh, and lots of blood.

The premise of the story initially wasn't too bad and if it expanded on that, I probably would've given it 4 stars. However, the ending (I don't want to give away spoilers) was just simply too far-fetched for me. The way that the protagonist comes to a head with the Megalodon was simply 10 steps too far for me.

If you are after shock value, blood and guts, start reading right away. You won't be disappointed. This book"s movie equivalent would be Ghostbusters or The Pink Panther - pure fun, but it won't win any Oscars. If on the other hand, you are searching for something more "meaty", rather read Of Mice and Men.

Best to be read when one is on a beach holiday 😉

I love the concept but the book is dated and sexist tbh.

I loved this book. The book was a lot different genre than I normally read and it exceeded my expectations.
The writing kept me engaged. I felt claustrophobic, scared, tense...it kept me turning the page wondering what was going to happen next. My imagination envisioned crazy scenes like I was watching a movie while I was reading. I am not much for watching movies but feel as though I must watch this now.
Great read. Recommend!
