I loved this book!!! If I didn't have to sleep or work I probably would have read it straight through. I did not want to put it down. I've always loved ballerinas so I was pretty excited to read about Emma's life. However the book was more about her journey to discover her Grandma Beattie's life and Wildflower Hill. Which was an amazing story. The character's were really easy to connect to and it left you wanting to know more about what's going to happen to them. I thoroughly recommend this book!!

I won this book from one of the drawings here on GR. I had it for a while and picked it up the other day. It was a beautiful story, love, loss, true friendships, the struggles in life. I cried, I laughed. One of the best stories I have read in a very long time. It's one I may have to re-read in the future, and I rarely do that!

I really wanted to like this book. I thought the plot line about a poor Scottish unwed single mother, Beattie, coming to Australia and becoming a successful sheep farmer in the 1930s had so much potential, particularly since much of her story looked as if it would be told through her granddaughter, Emma. But alas, while the story itself was entertaining, the characters were so flat and one dimensional it was hard to connect with them, so I became rather apathetic as events unfolded. The ending was so unfulfilling, and I probably would have screamed out loud if I had cared more.

Loved this book! I love the format of historical novels like this. The characters were wonderful the setting sounded amazing that I wanted to go to Tasmania and see it. Completely different than what I was expecting! I know the religious aspect of the book may throw some people but having grown up and around people who proclaim themselves to be such "Good Christians" but are and do things that are complete opposites of that while looking down on people who actually are kind but not religious. Everytime I read the parts about those characters I wanted to scream . I loved Beattie, and felt for her with everything she went through.

Oh, how I wanted to love this book. I enjoyed the characters, the story material, the primary theme (do you want to be a woman who does things, or has things done to them?). I loved all this.

But I didn't love the book. Maybe it moved too slowly for me (I skimmed the last 200 pages and didn't miss a thing).

If you LOVE Kate Morton, you will love this book. Without a doubt. Whenever I read Kate Morton, I breeze through it and enjoyed the experience, but forget what I read 10 minutes later. This book is trying to be Kate Morton... but just doesn't Kate Morton as well as she does.

GREAT beach read, though. That much said, it's March in Virginia and we have snow. I need something with a little more oomph, I guess!

This was well done, though I loved Beattie's story and really just tolerated the Emma sections. It was a quick read and I haven't read too many stories based in this part of the world. I especially appreciated the interesting facets of child custody during a time when divorce wasn't nearly as common as it is today.
