Jane Eyre: I’m a strong, independent woman who makes the morally right decisions in my opinion even if that means being miserable because virtuousness is more important than my personal feelings or emotional gratification.
★★★★★ all the stars for this beautiful and accurate adaption of one of my favourite classics
You can also find this review on my blog bookboners. There are also some example pictures from the manga, goodreads didn't show them properly.

Jane Eyre was the first classic I read and I enjoyed every page of it! So I was very excited when I saw this manga version by Udon Entertainment & Morpheus Studios. AS you can already tell by my rating the adaption did not disappoint me.
This story is about Jane Eyre, an orphan who has to live with her aunt. Jane’s aunt can be put in the same category as all the wicked stepmothers out there. She had no love for Jane and showed her this every opportunity she got. Still, Jane grew up to be a kind girl and entered a boarding school. Though there she found people that actually loved her the situation there can’t be called acceptable. The girls don’t get enough food and the chairman is more interested in stuffing his pockets with money instead of giving the pupils more than the necessary.
Eventually, Jane completes here education at the school and seeks out a job as an governess. She gets hired by one of Edward Rochester’s servants to take care of and educate the young girl Adèle. Over time, she and Rochester grow closer and she falls in love. When Rochester confesses his love for her the newly formed couple should be able to spend their time together in blissful peace but Rochester has a secret that makes an easy happy ending impossible for Jane.
It’s been a while since I read the original novel but as far as I can tell this adaption stays very true to the original, which I appreciate greatly. The language fit the retelling of the classic very well and the art was beatuiful. Jane is mentioned to be plain looking in the story, or at least she says that about herself and in the manga she looks quite pretty, but well manga does that to a person. Even the not handsome Rochester turns into a quite good looking dude.
All in all a great read for anyone who isn’t that enthusiastic about books that take more than two hours to finish as well as people who aren’t native english speakers. Though the language in the manga isn’t the easiest, it’s not as difficult as trying to read the whole novel.

To be honest, I have never actually read Jane Eyre. I have tried to on several occasions, but have never been able to get into it for some reason. Reading this graphic novel really helped my get an understanding of what the book is about and I actually enjoyed it. I might have to try reading the book again!

This was a perfect visual version of the classic Jane Eyre story. It gave me the same feelings as when I read the original. I also really enjoyed the imagery and the art style. I think that this would be perfect for people who either haven’t read the story before or aren’t keen on reading older books. Sometimes older books can be intimidating to readers, so this is a nice way to still get the feel of Jane Eyre but not have to deal with the older writing style.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this time era, these types of stories, and manga. It is a mixture of things I never thought that I would see but I'm really glad they made books like this because it can really help someone get more into it.

not sure why this one did not work for me when i was such a huge fan of the les mis manga adaption.. prolly would recommend just reading jane eyre instead
wish the dialogue had been edited down harder (too many words on the page!!!). truly wish jane’s design had been refined further beyond big eyed anime girl. the loss of jane’s 1st person narration takes away so much from her character!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! Overall, I really enjoyed this manga! It does stick very closely to the original Jane Eyre story, so chances are, if you do enjoy the original novel, you'll enjoy this adaptation. While I don't know a ton about art and manga styles in general, I will say that the art was pleasant to look at and did a pretty good job at bringing the characters to life! (Though, I will say, Rochester asking if Jane finds him handsome, while being a sparkly handsome anime man is pretty funny, in a way). I would say that the only actual issue I had with the book is that sometimes, for pacing/adaptation purposes, certain scenes or dialogue were paraphrased or rewritten, and sometimes it came across as anachronistic, which is a little distracting at times. The additional information about the making of the manga was also really informative, interesting, and nice to read. Overall, though, I think it's a solid adaptation. If you enjoyed the original novel, chances are that you'll probably enjoy this! I would probably also recommend this for people who maybe can't or don't want to read the original novel - this version is a lot more digestible, especially for young adult readers. 4 stars!
This is my third time now reading a Manga Classics book, and they never disappoint!
The art was really good and I felt like the author adapted the novel in a way that I found it really easy to understand the plot and the dialogue. Unlike the previous two manga classics I've read, I'm not as familiar with Jane Eyre (and have never read it) but I feel like I read a whole story even if there were much less words.
I always like the behind-the-scenes explanations at the end of the book, as I love to discover the process involved as well as more about the original novel and the author. I also felt that the manga did a good job in feeling like it was set in the 1800s, both through the art and dialogue and I appreciate that the writer kept the same first person perspective.
I loved the characters and am even more interested in picking up the original classic now!
Every time I pick up a manga classic, I say the same thing. But I'll say it again: they're a really good way to read and enjoy a classic, whether you're looking for a new interpretation or hesitant to read the original novel.
I would really recommend this manga and the Manga Classics line in general as I feel they're fun to read and very accessible no matter what kind of reader you are.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

TW: child neglect, abuse, slurs, suicide mention
Disclaimer: I haven't read the original book so have no way of comparing the two.
I've wanted to read any Brontë Sister book for YEARS now and look at that, I finally have! Now I can be protentios about it if I want.
Like I said before, I haven't read the original so I don't know how it compares to the Manga adaptation. I loved the art, I love the way SunNeko Lee draws her art. And I truly appreciate the work Crystal S Chan has put into adapting the book for the Manga version.
Okay, to the story. For me personally, Jane Eyre was okay. It wasn't a life changing experience reading it, but I got through it. I don't know if it's a book I would enjoy in any setting, but it has its people.
Jane is young and hasn't experienced much love so her version of a good man is a bit wonky and NGL, Mr Rochester seemed rather dodgy to me at first. I don't fault Jane for her choices in men, she's had an awful life and this is the first guy she's been in love with, so yah know, she's on for the long haul. Then there's the priest who wants to marry her for his work and he's also just a no. Maybe if Jane had met another guy when she was a little older, her feeling for Rochester would change. Who knows. But this is romance and I guess she had to end up with the man she first fell in love with.
I'm not going to lie, in regards to the actual story, I just didn't feel much. Maybe the original book will do, I don't know. But yeah. The art and adaptation are excellent, but the storyline itself seemed a bit drab to me.

*I received this book through netgalley, but all thoughts and ideas about it are my own*
To start, I have to admit I have never read Jane Eyre... or most of the 'classics'. I have been meaning to and I love manga so, when I saw this pop up I decided to give it a try.
It was a very interesting read. I do really want to read the novel now so I can compare them because there were many places where the manga felt awkward. There were scenes or dialogue that seemed to come out of nowhere or not match the tone I suspected. This could also just be a time difference.... I wish we had more thought bubbles from Jane so we could understand things better.
Very interesting though and I thought the artwork was very pretty.
