Blurb and title make you feel as though this is for any woman but it is definitely very aimed at Christian mothers. There is enough in there for other audiences and she does have some charming and emotional life stories, but it's not as universal as it seems at first glance.
2.5. I’m too old for a lot of the advice and commentary, having already lived through a lot of her “stuff” and found my own wisdom. I’m not particularly religious and didn’t connect with the continuous Christian referencing...but I can’t fault an author for speaking from her authentic voice. A better editor would have cut the repetition that occurred several times in the book. This wasn’t the best read, and I won’t recommend it to my circle of friends...BUT there were some good nuggets, I’ll use some selected quotes in my prenatal and postnatal yoga classes (good support for new parents!), and I did smile and even chuckle a few times at Hollis’s wit and light-heartedness. She writes with good intention.
Sorry, not sorry. Seriously, I was curious about this book but felt grossed out right from the beginning. The idea that YOU can fix all your problems, plus the constant fat-shaming of “twenty pounds overweight”, shaming about unhealthy abusive relationships, etc. I wanted to throw up. It sounded like she might have some real ideas for dealing with trauma and other issues, but it’s so superficial.
Oh, and she works with MLM companies, which is totally gross.
Not loving the slut-shaming that was implied about being a booty call and how could SHE, a perfect Christian girl be there??
Also, after being exposed to brilliant POC authors, this fails so hard at getting anything meaningful.
I suppose I fall into a similar class as her, but I wish her bullshit was WAAAAAYYYY far away from me.

Listened to the audiobook on my jogs. Was just eh.

A little more religious than I usually do and definitely on the autobiography side of nonfiction. Had some good points, was quite funny and I should definitely reread this when i have kids/am pregnant.
Got 3/4s of the way through the book and just could not finish it.
I found the author to be unrelatable, cringey, and problematic on multiple levels. This book just repeats so many other self-help and mindfulness mantras, but is coming from an affluent and privileged social media influencer. The author lacks self-awareness, promotes an unhealthy body image, and seems to be okay being disrespected by her "hunky" and wealthy husband (because everything worked out perfectly for her like a "fairytale" when they married). This book just got under my skin and made me feel uncomfortable reading it. It is just not for me and on reflection I don't think I was the intended target audience for this book. Readers who follow this author's website will obviously like this book and be able to take the messages in it. I just can't get behind this author.

I think this was a good introduction to Rachel Hollis. I will probably listen to Girl, Stop Apologizing and check out her podcast.
If someone is completely new to goal-setting and the concept of pursuing your dreams, this might be a 5-star book. I’m just a little further along in that development and wouldn’t make this the FIRST book I’d recommend on pursuing life-changing habits / ambitions. It might be on the list, just not 5-star must read first.

More religious than I prefer. But still a lot to think about and I'm sort of inspired to try to make a few changes to my life.
