Disclaimer: I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this novel with the condition that I review it should I feel so inclined. Thoughts and opinions are my own. I would have reviewed this novel regardless of when or how I got it.

I'm generally a big fan of Carriger works, but this series has been a miss for me. That being said, the modern voice and wit Carriger uses in the San Andreas Shifters series, and in this book especially, is amazing. Also queer characters for daaaaaays! However, at the end of the day, it didn't save the book for me.

The Omega Objection needed/needs a SERIOUS developmental edit to par down extraneous characters/plot lines and develop Tank and Isaac’s characters and relationship. I kept reading until the end because I love the way Gail writes in her modern voice, and her wit had me rolling, but I was not invested in the relationship like I wanted to be.

I was invested in Isaac’s story line but not his romance with Tank. Neither Isaac nor Tank really developed much as characters by the end of the novel, and what development did occur felt rushed. The new characters that were introduced weren't fleshed out at all, which basically ruined them. All the old favorites got trotted out, but their appearances just ended up stealing the show and introducing secondary or tertiary plot lines that distracted me from the story at hand.

I feel bad tearing a Carriger book apart like this, but that’s where I’m at. I really, really wanted to like The Omega Objection; it had so much potential, and had all the right ingredients for me to love it, but in the end the mix didn't bake well and the cake was not for me. I honestly, really and truly, liked The Omega Objection better than I did The Sumage Solution, but I ended up rating it lower because of the weak characters and muddled plot.

I frankly devoured this book. A long lover of Gail Carriger’s writing, I was enchanted with Marine Biology. I was ensorcelled by The Sumage Solution. So needless to say I was bedazzled by The Omega Objection.

Unlike the other two tales, the two main characters are not brimming with snarky comments or dry witticisms, just copious amounts of gooey kindness. This is not a sickly sweet romance, as there are some very serious dramas abounding, but it is a lovely romance for the series.

Well that was fun, just like the other books in this series.

I love the world building and the dynamics of this unusual pack and I loved how Isaac's story unfolded. Tank is such a sweetheart, far more than the gentle giant impression he gives.

The Dom/sub elements were well crafted to the narrative to and I liked how intertwined both Tank's non rank and Isaac's Omega status were fitted into both the revealed plot but also the pack as a whole.

Super sweet, spicy and with all the feels, this was a fab addition to the series.

I was gifted an audiobook of The Omega Objection (San Andreas Shifters series) through a giveaway by Gail Carriger.

I found the book most interesting in the trope of many romance type novels (not my favorite genre) which seems to be any variation of "S/HE could not possibly love ME because..." Both of the principals were adorable in their own way, the kinds of guys I would like to be friends with as I am definitely not their type nor a shifter at all--just a human groupie, maybe. Tank in particular is familiar to me as both my dad and my brother were large men, often challenged because of their size.

The idea of a different kind of shifter made a good change of stakes, as well as the change of culture that would allow a gay pack to exist in a previously ALT-RUT stereotype. It made the conflict believable and not just a comedy of errors. I found Carriger's description of pack dynamics interesting as well. I am not that familiar or fond of Vampire/Werewolf/Zombie tropes, but these characters were each developed enough, and accepting of others enough, for me to relate to them. I very much enjoyed the kitsune characters as well as the other varied supernatural extras.

I am very familiar with Carriger's work, especially the Parasol Protectorate and Custard Protocol series. This one is lots of fun for people who like M/M erotica and werewolves in particular. Even though I generally would not have chosen this genre, I liked it, found the writing powerful, and the story engaging.

Once again, all I could have wanted -- even if I didn't know it beforehand. Carriger has such a way with characterization that I just love her main characters deeply by the end. And, as with the last one, there are parts I can identify with so well and that just makes the happy ending even more satisfying. I'll read every book in this that she wants to release!

Maybe 3.5

I enjoyed this one much more than the first in this series. There were less sex scenes, which I appreciated, as that meant we actually had time for a plot. The plot felt a bit samey in structure/set up to the first book but at least it was there and fleshed out.

I like these characters a lot and hope we get more than the one more planned book in this series.
