Really nice little book, tons of crazy and bizarre facts I’ll be spouting to people I know for the near future. I’ve always been fascinated by animals so I know a lot of the widely known facts about the oddities and cool things about them. That’s why I really liked this book because either I hadn’t heard about the animals at all previously or I got a much more in depth look at what I knew about them and better understood them. The evolution beliefs spliced intermittently was enjoyable too. The author tried very hard to be humorous, but it didn’t take away from the book substantially and he was funny sometimes which helped balance that.

Fun-sized chapters about creatures with some unbelievable adaptations. The title really says it all. I didn’t digest this book all at one time: I’d read about two or three animals in between other books, starting a year ago? More? I don’t remember the early ones very well, but I’m hopeful that some of these uniquely evolved animals will stick with me. Life finds a way, and this book is full of examples of how nature makes it work.

A brilliant book! I’d recommend this to anyone with even a faint interest in the animal kingdom or as a gift to an young adult to get them interested in the world around them!

We may go about our daily lives in complete oblivion of what the animal kingdom is up to, but they are up to a lot, and a lot of it is weird.

Matt Simon has created a fabulous work where each short chapter tells the tale of a creature that has evolved to have some pretty interesting, if not lethal, attributes.

From an ant that decapitates flies, a pistol shrimp that can generate a 210 decibel claw snap, limb regenerating salamanders, to insulin ejecting cone snails - this book will have you riveted and laughing at many of Matt's one liners.

The world is a fascinating and mysterious place but there is so much going on that we most likely have no idea of, and this book informs on many of those strange and unique events.

Downside: there were only about three things in here I'd never heard of.

Upside: the author cracks a lot of jokes.
