Really good story line but it was a little too boring when the characters were trying to figure out the answers to the artifacts and who was doing what.

Isabella has escaped to Scargill Cove in an effort to get away from the men out to kill her. This is where she meets Fallon Jones, the head of Jones & Jones. She becomes his office manager, and shortly thereafter, becomes even more.

Isabella seemed to be the only one to get the real, true Fallon. Everyone else seemed to believe he was right on the edge of sanity. Fallon was the only on to know the real story behind Isabella, so they were the perfect match.

In Too Deep doesn’t hold your interest as well as some of the previous books in this series. The romance between Fallon and Isabella was a bit dry and mild. It was a lot of describing of their psychic powers but not a lot of relationship building.

This book has all the potential for a great paranormal romantic suspense with a master villain pulling strings behind the scenes, the Arcane Society policing the Talents and the Jones family. Unfortunately it has one major downfall which is a heroine that is just too stupid to live. It really pushes the bounds of creditability when Isabella Valdez, who was raised by a conspiracy theorist, would be as naïve as she is in this book.

Even so, the rest of the characters and the plot line kept me listening to the book. Fallon Jones , a hardnosed detective, has his insecurities but is a man that lives by a code of honor and logic. The residents of Scargill Cove are a unique bunch and it would be a delightful bunch to fit in with. And the plotline is all too feasible. This would be a fantastic series if it wasn’t for Isabella.

And since this is an audio book I feel that I must comment on the narrator. She was easy to understand but lousy with male voices. All of the men sound like they have been smoking for 50+ years and drinking just as long.

These are always a easy read. Something interesting but not intense. I always enjoy them, even the ones that take place in the past and that surprises me.

The narrator did a nice job. Didn't get in the way of the story.

Reading this straight after a fantastic and well-written book probably made it seem worse than it actually is - so I've given it an extra 0.5 star.

Sentence structures and dialogue were a little stiff and I felt that things were being overly explained.

Characters felt a little 2-D and flat, but the pacing wasn't too bad.

In reading my first paranormal novel, I found an engaging story line featuring Isabela Valdez seeking a safe place to live in Scargill Cove. Powers and talents and fogs draw the reader into the world of nexus energy. Populated with cleverly drawn characters, the story moves with energy and mystery.

There is a certain silliness to it all as parallels to the real world have with clever descriptions and adaptations for this genre. I found myself smiling as I came across "para-" words: parapsychology, paraweapons, parahypnotist. When the protagonist shouted "Oh crap!" I expected her to say "paracrap".

However, there are a couple of glitches for me. Although this author has written many books, this story could have been more skillfully rendered in the hands of a more able author. The plot line is advanced all too often through dialog. So it seems like a character speaks with explain, explain, explain. Then another character fine tunes with a bit more explanation. Someone poses a question and explanation ensues via dialog. It was quite distracting because the dialog seemed too contrived.

I skipped through the sex scenes though some readers enjoy that bit of detail. So, maybe one sex scene, but layering gratuitous repitition seems unnecessary.

Overall, it was a good story, heavy on drama and romance.

I didn't know whether to round up or down with this one. I know my ratings have gotten more lenient in the past year so I thought about it and decided, based on my earlier criteria for a 3 star read, this is closer to that than a four star. 3 star = average, enjoyable, worth the time, but nothing to make it unique. That fits this book fairly well.

I enjoyed the characters, the plot, and the set-up for the next book(s). I thought the mystery and the characters in this book were interesting, although somewhat underdeveloped. While the relationship stays somewhat in the background, I appreciate that I don't have to read about over-reactive body parts every time the two protagonists are in the same room together. Having to stop the dialog or action for H/h to think about how their private parts are tingling/throbbing/etc., gets old. Some times I like my characters to be grown-ups and control their "parts." Krentz's characters do, more or less.

Overall, I was pleased with the book and plan to keep reading the series.

Good story, but lacking

I really liked the idea of this story line, but the writing was sparse and the timeline seemed a bit everywhere. I would have preferred if this book had been stretched out a bit more, just to give the story a chance to become more detailed.
