I enjoyed this for the most part. Hilderbrand is so so good at creating such wonderful settings, it’s hard to let this close BUT I’m in Mexico looking at the ocean, so it was easier to accept leaving Nantucket goodbye. This was a more original storyline than I would think most would expect for a summer breach read, but I’ll read anything she writes, original or not.

Typical Elin Hilderbrand -- easy read.

Meredith is Silver Girl, she lives a privileged life with her husband, an investments banker...and a crook. The problem is Silver Girl doesn't know her husband is a crook and one day he, and the Feds, reveal that he has stolen 50 billion dollars from his clients. Think Bernie Madoff.
As you can imagine Meredith's life spins out of control and all eyes are on her as people think she was in on the scam due to her "loving" husband putting her fingerprints all over 15 million dollars 3 days before he gets arrested. The problem with Meredith's lifestyle is that she has no real friends, nobody who can come to her side and give her some support...except for Connie whom she has known for a lifetime but had a falling out with a few years back.
This is the story of both Meredith and Connie finding their way back from deep waters to healing.
It's the second Hilderbrand book I've read and as with the other one she doesn't write in chapters but in character voice. This book is written strictly from Meredith and Connie's perspectives. While I liked the story line, the character development, and the setting the book lagged a bit in parts. I think some tighter editing would have been beneficial and not detracted from the content of the book. It was a lengthy novel that could have had a more lasting impact with some tightening. But all in all, I liked the book and I like Hilderbrand's style and story lines.

Perfect beach read. Easy enough to pick up/put down, yet interesting enough to want to keep reading when all else are fast asleep.

Always love this author!

As always, my summer wouldn't be complete without an Elin Hilderbrand novel. The Nantucket setting causes me to reminisce about my trip with Bethany in 2009!

Probably my favorite Hilderbrand yet. Her books all share similar themes, but this one was set apart a bit. I liked the familiarity of the characters but this one was more real to me, maybe because of where the country has been the last few years. Bravo. I look forward to the next.

I just can't do it anymore

I have so much to say about this book. First and foremost, I’ve read maybe 12 of Elin’s books and this one just hit different. It was very deep and at times, emotionally darker than any of her other books. The rawness of it made for a captivating story. Also, she described situations and feelings that I feel are difficult to put into words and she did it so well. For example, when she described Connie’s “sense of well being” and how it snuck up on her which doesn’t happen often. I could instantly put myself in that feeling and knew exactly what she meant. This happened a few times and I found myself grabbing for my highlighter so that I can come back to these moments. It was a great book for Saturday afternoon and I’m wrapping up my 2024 summer reads with this one. Highly recommend!

Liked the two character perspective and each ones history and current situation.
