Ok, I watched the movie on Netflix and I think it is highly unrealistic and ridiculous, but I love its romantic mushiness and what-have-you. The book is slightly different, as there isn’t a big conflict to keep you on edge. It was sort of flat. It’s time where the on-screen relationship bested the book one, which isn’t usually the case for me (looking at YOU, Harry and Ginny).
My main quibbles are as follows: Do parents just not care where their kids are at night? Do parents really just blink when your 17yo child admits to a night spent with their paramour at a hotel? When one 17yo gives another 17yo condoms as a gift in front of both their families (which includes the 18yo male the female 17yo is sleeping with), does everyone really just ignore it?
Also, Noah smirks too much.

I hesitate to give any book a one star review, but this one came so close it's riding that 1.5 star line pretty hard right now (though that isn't an option on Goodreads so two stars it is). Through other reviews I found out that this apparently started as a story on Wattpad? I can see that. I can not, however, see how this got so popular and had an actual movie made out of it. Like WHAT!?
I've never read anything by Beth Reekles before, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on her writing style. It wasn't for me, but it wasn't bad. It was just okay, and maybe she excels with other stories. I just really, really didn't care for this.
It also bothered me that the book is set in California, but a lot of the terminology wasn't American at all. Is the author English? I really don't know, but based on how they called a motorcycle a motorbike and other such things I have to assume they are. I mean that doesn't like take me out of the story, but it does make it very apparent that some wires were crossed with the lingo.
I did not like Shelley, I found her to be super shallow and obnoxious. I was really, really tired of reading about her sexy outfits etc pretty quick. I also didn't care for Noah, who was just kind of a dbag the entire time and just punched people like he's Elliot Stabler or something. Lee was tolerable, but also didn't float my boat.
I just didn't connect with any of the characters. That was a huge part of my problem with this.
Also if I read the term 'violence junkie' one more time I was going to hurl my kindle across the room in my own show of unwarranted violence.
Anyway, I never saw the Netflix film, and now I never will. This just isn't my thing even a little bit, alas.

Just meh, cute but I was underwhelmed. Possibly because I watched the movie first and enjoyed it. I don’t know, it just wasn’t my thing!
The writing style of the author is very kiddish. It's almost cring-worthy. I picked this book bcoz of the movie. The plot was very different and weak.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I watched the movie first a few years ago and since has been my comfort movie whether it’s considered cringy or not. I like that it differed from the film a bit so I found out things I didn’t know before but I did find myself getting frustrated at Elle a few time for how frequently she would get annoyed and the repetitiveness or some aspects of the book. Even with all that in mind I still really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you want to get out of a reading slump or want to read a classic romance.
This was the first romantic teen fiction I've ever read so I have nothing to compare it with.
Let me start with the first thing that pops into my head: the writing style was immature. I'm not from an English speaking country, but even I know that if you use word smirk a hundred times a chapter, it probably isn't the right thing to do.
I have to say that I love the theme of the book, but I felt like the last 10 chapters (out of 32) were completely useless. The plot has ended, everything was sorted out so just why add another boring details? Did the author need to fill some more pages to publish the book or what?
Anyway, if I ignore the last ten chapters and the repetition of words the book was pretty good. And come on the author is only seventeen!
But as I said this is my first romantic teen novel so this could be below average...

If Noah Flynn was real (and I think we all wish he was) he’d hate my description but… this book was cute! An easy to read, smile inducing YA where you feel attached to the characters and want everything to work out in the end.
I can’t wait to watch the Netflix movie now and see if it’s all how I pictured it, and to fall in love with Noah just a little bit more ❤️
Pretty good
I shouldn’t have watched the movie first. This was an amazing work. But the film adaption stuck in my mind more.
