"A question of Holmes" follows Charlotte and Jamie as they take summer classes at Oxford after high school. Charlotte, of course, takes on a case. They're also trying out dating for real now.

This was a shorter one, but I liked the change of scenery from the US to the UK, I liked that we followed the whole case from Charlotte's POV and got more of a view into her head. I found the case interesting enough, and I really enjoyed seeing Charlotte's and Jamie's attempt at dating, as well as Charlotte living with Leander.

The ending was... bittersweet and I did not expect that. I expected parts of it, as there were many hints towards it over the course of this book, but others took me by surprise. I'm too sad about those to confidently judge objectively if I find those writing choices to be good or not, but the overall reading experience of this book was good. I liked it.

thots & prayers needed

i am a little bit broken now that one of my fave series has ended but it's cool cool cool cool cool no doubt. lemme try to put into words what i liked and didn't like.

liked:
- charlotte's narration
- the tightness of the mystery (unlike in past books)
- the freaking BANTER
- the fucking CUTENESS AND KISSING AND HAND HOLDING

did not like:
- the ending

fr fr, the ending was so open ended and not set in stone and those are the kinds of endings that keep me up at night. i do not want to wonder if they are going to be together forever. sure that kind of ending might be more realistic but my romance loving heart cannot TAKE IT. please confirm smooching into infinity thank u.

honestly this was a satisfying conclusion to this series though. both of the characters underwent so much emotional and mental growth throughout the series and it was so awesome seeing them thrive now and into the future. i'm gonna miss these fuckers <3

It's good but...

I feel like I'm mourning the loss of good friends. When there were whispers of a fourth book I got my hopes up but this seems to be the last of the last and it wasn't enough. Charlotte and Jamie are a dynamic that I could come back to over and over again so the series ending is first and foremost sad for me.
I enjoyed the new scenery. It was nice having a plot that wasn't centered on the Moriarty family. The epilogue left me wanting more. It didn't end the way I pictured. I should have expected that though.

I enjoyed this book for the reasons that it was told from Charlotte’s point of view. I enjoy her character. The mystery was almost too tidy in that it went on a straight path. (Or it just seemed easy as it was from Charlotte’s perspective).
It was a good way to end the series, but I felt it was a little underwhelming for an ending.
