I guess this is a folk horror, but it definitely wasn't a horror horror which is what I expected. I still enjoyed it though, the folklore was creepy and fun. The ending left me unsatisfied though; I feel like everything was mostly resolved with the exception of one character, but it felt abrupt.

This book almost reminded me of season one of True Detective, which I absolutely loved. Telling one story from four very different perspectives without it feeling confusing or muddled is very impressive. Even telling a story with familiar themes, it felt so unique, and wasn’t at all what I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

i did enjoy this!! i think this is a really good, gritty, and beautiful debut. there were definitely shortcomings—four POVs in 380~ pages is incredibly ambitious. i feel like some aspects of the story were kind of glossed over. but otherwise you do feel for these characters, the setting is beautiful, and the story is powerful.
