I devoured this book. I have one complaint, and it’s kind of a big one
why does the main character have to have been sexually abused as a child? It feels like authors sometimes use trauma just to up the stakes, and that’s what it feels like is happening here. You can’t have something so serious happen to a character if it isn’t going to be THE major event on which the narrative turns. No one is going to have a happily ever after after that without a shit ton of therapy. A significant blemish on what was otherwise a delightful novel.

I received this book as an ARC and it took me ages upon ages to finish. The prose is beautiful and I thought so each time I picked it up and read a chapter...but it was such a chore to get myself to pick it up. I think the main issues lie in the pacing—it took forever to get where it was going and the ending felt rushed. I loved the characters of Jules, Django, and Lucie, but I had difficulty remembering who each of the tumbleweeds were.
