Ii wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I kept cringing for some reason. It felt so contrived, which is funny because I can consume formulaic rom coms just fine. This is unique but everything felt so forced. I liked the Paris culinary history but the excess of it all was grating. I’m so glad others enjoyed this book. I have very much enjoyed the author’s nonfiction books. I think this might have been a very much me problem.

I'm so glad Ruth Reichl has given us some fiction. It was delectable. This book will either make you glad you're headed to France soon or make you feel miserable that you're not. On the downside, this is the book I wish I'd written! Back to the ol' drawing board.
