I'd been so lonely for so long. Rejected, exiled, scorned. Others had helped fill that cold, barren place in my chest. But this-- this --set the whole damned place ablaze. Burning up the darkness until there was nothing but light. And life.

This book was captivating and reminded me highly of (Queen) Sarah J. Maas' books. There was a bad-ass female lead amongst brooding (sexy) fae males--sound familiar? I am excited for the next book(!!!) A Kingdom of Nomads --release date currently is a vague 2019.

It took me over a month to read this book and to be honest I’m so glad it’s finally over... I saw people compare this to SJM, and I was expecting to enjoy it, but nope. First of all, this book is 600 pages and nothing really happens. The “big thing” is heavily anticipated and then just left to the next book. The main character is super dramatic and annoying, and she just doesn’t make sense. At one point, she compares the pain of being sort of rejected by her crush she barely knew to the death of both her parents?! Yet literally every “hot fae male” is just ready to die in order to protect her? You’re expected to get invested in a romance, but you’re also already told that she’s destined to end up with someone else later in the series? Like... what?! And also, even though she has sort of ended up in her current position by accident it seems like she will (of course) be the special snowflake chosen one. Every time she has an emotional reaction it’s very intense. She’s never scared: she’s terrified, she’s not happy, she’s elated. This book was uselessly long, annoying, and I feel like I wasted time and money reading this while someone could have told me like 3 plot points and it would sort of be like telling me the whole story. I realise this is a sort of bitter review but I was at least expecting the ending to make the rest of the book worth it, but sadly, it really wasn’t.

It was ok... It was Very similar to Sarah Mass books....

The characters Communication felt a bit weird and Stunted... The Main character seemed to have all this adoration without really doing anything for it....

The plot was ok it went on for a bit....

Still the world building was good!

This book felt underdeveloped in many ways. We begin with one world and life there for the heroine, It felt like The Scarlet Letter. It was so predictable that she would lose the trial. She had to or there would be no rest of the story. But then there is this insta-love thing that happens with her captor. If he had done what he did, to me, there's no way I would have forgiven him let alone befriended him. So, this was another predictable transition to get the heroine into the next situation, etc. The various scenes just felt underdeveloped and again predictable without originality. If you're going to reuse a trope, at least make it so we can't guess how it will play out. Make something about it unpredictable. I'm about halfway through but I won't be finishing it. The foreshadowing dump with the witch was just the end for me. Yes, not only is she the queen, but there's more. She's also a fae! Come on. And the result of the meeting with the witch, now there will be several quests to go get these necessary ingredients which heaven forbid the witch not procure because of Morgan. So now we have to go through this quest. Argh. And you know she will eventually become queen. I'm just done. I need something more original, or at least with unexpected twists.

This was truly a terrible waste of time. It took me months to finish it. I kept hoping this almost 600 pages of absolute trash would get better, but it never did. It honestly got worse. It started off with potential but quickly derailed. The MC is the biggest Mary Sue I’ve read in ages, I rolled my eyes so many times reading this garbage I’m surprised my eyes didn’t get stuck in the back of my head. The writing itself is poor. The dialogue even more so. The author couldn’t pick a time or proper place for this. Modern day language in a fantasy/mid evil setting. Zero to no world building, too busy having to write about the MC’s obsession with a guy, or excuse me, MALE (because apparently men aren’t a thing in this book. They’re all MALES. Pardon me while I go throw up), she just met. Serena, the MC, is useless, but yet everyone and anyone basically falls in love with her the second they lay eyes on her. She has no personality other than being a whiny constant annoyance. Anytime she’s faced with anything, she freezes up and lets everyone else deal with it, but she’s supposed to be some all powerful being. Mmmk. I don’t normally hate the main character of a book, but I DESPISED Serena. The other characters were not much better, but she takes the freakin’ cake man. I only finished this out of sheer force of will, because I hate leaving books unfinished no matter how much I dislike them. Don’t waste your time with this book. Seriously. You’ll regret it. I’ve read FanFictions written by teenagers infinitely better than this.

The second book has been pushed back 3 years. Let’s hope the author just gives up on it entirely.
