Connor and Lenix are pure, combustible fire. The push and pull between them, the surface-level hate and lust burying deeper feelings that neither of them immediately wants to put a name to... it is a delicious dance with the devil.

As with the previous book, Was I Ever Here, this one for me is all about how two souls end up finding each other, and how the individuals that carry those souls are trying to build a world around them that allows them to hide how they truly feel inside. The arrogant, possessive Connor definitely finds his match in Lenix. She manages to find a hidden marshmallow center underneath his steely facade (and it is so satisfying to see him finally let go and fall). And Lenix holds so many secrets, so much guilt, and is hiding from everyone (including herself). She is flawed and she is perfect and she learns so much about who she can truly be at the end of everything. Honestly, Lenix is that heady mix of strength and vulnerability personified.

Cults, secrets, touch-her-and-die vibes... this story has a little bit of everything. And it provides a journey of two people that find themselves better when together, rather than apart.

Loved the FMC, she was dynamic and interesting and just *chefs kiss*. I love the themes of reincarnation and such but how side it was, like it was there but it wasn't the focus just a nice compliment which added a sense of mysticism to the story. The guy was neither here nor there for me, but the story was interesting at every turn.

Did I stay up until 4 am to read finish this knowing I had to be at work the next day? Why yes, yes I did.

This book was just as beautiful and emotional as the first.

Both characters hiding their true natures and traumas by harder exteriors.

Lenix has escaped a religious cult and made a new life for herself. She has fought through the brainwashing of her childhood to become the person she wants to be.

Connor had to become the devil. He’s the leader of a crime organization and came at a cost. A cost the Devil he became was willing to pay.

They can’t fight the need to be in each other’s orbits. They also can’t stop the need to fight period.

They had me laughing out loud and crying.

The past lives aspect continues to be so interesting and attention grabbing.

Another banger from Naomi. This author does a phenomenal job writing characters and the mental health issues they face.

Connor and Lenix are hot, hot, hot. Naomi does a fantastic job showcasing their obsession for each other and who doesn’t love a hot man willing to burn the world down for his love. She also does the themes of finding yourself and how to cope with trauma justice with the way that she allows her characters to grow and develop.

Lenix is one of my favorite FMCs I’ve read in a while and her relationship with Connor is so complicated and messy but filled with such safety and adoration.

This one didnt knock my socks off as much as book 1 (some of the content was a little repetitive and slow) but I was still thoroughly entertained and if you thought Byzantine was morally grey then Connor is morally BLACK

I didn’t love this book and I didn’t hate this book, I am unsure what to feel currently. I started it this morning at 9 and was done my middday but I carried on because I wanted to know what happened at the end rather than because I was having fun reading it, if that makes sense.

I just wish we had more of a back story on Conner but I think that was probably done in the first book
