The first story is m/f. The second is m/m and interracial. The third is f/f. The book came about out of spite and post the 2016 election. It was a great story and exactly the diversity we need more of in romance!

Such a beautiful and moving trio of stories. I’ve never read romances that felt so...important? Political? This was such a happy surprise for me.

Of the three stories, I loved the Courtney Milan (unsurprising) - dialogue and banter is one of the reasons I love romance novels, and I laughed a lot (even though it was more like monologue). I really liked the Rose Lerner - her writing is wonderful - but I hated the framing device and I felt a bit like half the story had been cut off. And Alyssa Cole is a great writer, and I'm now looking forward to reading more of her work, but I just can't with that kind of immediate falling in love.

I read two of the three; I decided to abandon the final story, but I enjoyed the historical romance - it was interesting perspectives (a progressive woman dressed as a soldier; a gay interracial couple; unsure of the last) and entertaining, though not particularly related to Hamilton despite the title

I loved all three of the stories in this anthology. They were sweet and wonderful and magical and the way they were tied together as part of Eliza's project to record the stories of her husband was wonderful.

This review is for Rose Lerner's and Alyssa Cole's short stories. I will be reviewing Courtney's short on its own.

Promised Land (3.5 stars)

- Second chance romance
- Married M/F
- Jewish MCs

Rose Lerner is a name I've heard a lot in historical romance but have never tried before. One of my best friends recommended me one of Rose's book when I was branching out on HR but I still haven't read that one because...I have no good reason,

but ANYWAY,

It took me a while to warm up to the story (which was also the reason why it took me a looooong time to finish this book; I couldn't get into this story so I put the book down) but nth time's the charm? I admire Rachel a lot for her courage and the sacrifices she made. Nathan is another case of YouTried_meme.jpeg, I can't help but adore him. There were a lot of conflict between them and I love how Rose managed to incorporate their character growths in a short length. I also love how their story ended. The Scene between Rachel and Hamilton had me rolling on the floor.

I need to start that Rose Lerner book I have ASAP.

That Would Be Enough (3.5 stars)

- F/F
- Black MCs

Alyssa Cole is one of the authors whose works I have hoarded but never started for no reason idek. Anyway, this story was a bit intense mainly because Mercy was an intense sort of person. She's loved and been burned for it, so it made her closed off and more than a little wary when she met Andromeda, who's described as sunshine and light. I love Andromeda instantly. I love how she gets under Mercy's skin, I've always loved reading about a grumpy/lively dynamic. The letter exchange is my favourite part of this story.

E-ARC is received thanks to the publisher via Netgalley.

3 pretty entertaining novellas arranged around the premise of Eliza Hamilton collecting stories of those who served with her husband during the Revolutionary War. Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of novellas, the plots are usually rushed or the characters are underdeveloped. I have never read anything by Rose Lerner or Alyssa Cole before and I will read just about anything that Courtney Milan writes so I'm glad that I picked up this book. I also enjoyed that the protagonists were not your typical (or at least not my typical) romance characters.

Promised Land by Rose Lerner is a 2nd chance love story featuring Jewish protagonists (the heroine also is pretending to be a man so she can serve in the army). I'd give this one 3 stars.

The Pursuit of...by Courtney Milan was my favorite - definetly 4 stars. This is a road trip romance between John, a former slave, and Henry, a former British officer.

That Would be Enough by Alyssa Cole was a good story of 2 black women falling in love, but I think that it suffers the most from the abbreviated format. 3 stars.

Milan and Lerner’s stories were definitely both 5 stars, but Cole’s was a 3 star because I literally could not stand Mercy.

Overall still super adorable!

This collection embraces diversity and history, which I definitely appreciated.
