trigger warnings: racism, misogyny, misogynoir, pregnancy complications, abortion mention, medical trauma for black women, homelessness, physical abuse, domestic abuse, rape, police brutality

This book digs into a wide array of topics and how they intertwine due and how topical solutions don't really address the systemic roots of racism. I really enjoyed the book. It felt like calling out and restating things I already knew but it REALLY outlined how so many problems tie into each other.

Should be mandatory reading for every white feminist. This is an amazingly educational book on so many topics like gun violence, access to healthcare, food deserts, voter suppression, and more - all through a feminist lens. The biggest thing I felt at the end -- if your feminism isn't intersectional, it is not really feminism.

Really important piece of feminist literature. Forces readers to examine how poverty, race, education, health, etc are feminist issues. Some parts felt a little repetitive, but overall a really good read.

Mikki Kendall's Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot tracks how the prominent and stereotypical version of feminism - middle class and white - leaves so many women behind.

Kendall's writing style is easy to read, with the right amount of statistics, discussions, examples and memoir. She illuminates how many foundational needs are still unmet by many women, mostly those who are poor and of color. I was enlightened and ashamed it too me so long to realize this.

I highly recommend the audiobook, which Kendall narrates herself. However, I purchased a copy of the hardcover before I had even finished listening. I knew I was going to want to annotate this nonfiction and reread it near immediately. This is a must read for all the feminists out there!
