A combination of banal advice (eat unprocessed foods; don't spoil your children) and ludicrous evopsych (men are like THIS, women are like THIS; casual sex is endangering society) along with anti-woke nonsense (all the kids are on puberty blockers/sex hormones now; the pursuit of truth and pursuit of social justice are at odds with one another - since when are truth and justice contradictory??)
The authors claim to derive all of their conclusions from "first principles" but do not show their work. Do not be fooled into thinking all the contents of this book are supported by evolutionary theory.

Graphic: Sexism, Transphobia
Minor: Rape
slow-paced
This book does a bad name to science, it's so disappointing. Looking into the authors really clarified it for me - they are conservative and racist and bioessentialist to the point of spreading misinformation; have been involved in a lot of career and public drama with them on the yikes end of it all. There are so many other good books that use science without pseudoscience mixed in. Definitely would not recommend spending the time on this, it's not worth it.
Unpleasantly transphobic under a guise of being scientific.

Unfortunately too difficult to understand and therefore seemed boring
Right from the start I knew there would be points where I would disagree with the authors on, which set the tone for the rest of the book moving forward.

This book made me understand why pop science books can be so attractive, and that I need to be cautious when reading them as gospel. They are not peer reviewed and can be written with intent to persuade rather than educate. I believe this is the case here? There are, in the few pages that I read, many attempts to dispel ‘liberal myths’? in this book, and it made me uncomfortable. Most of it didn’t sit right because I knew I had read peer reviewed or more trustworthy sources of information, but I was angry that some may read this and believe it all. I understood more when I looked up the authors, and was disappointed, to be honest.

Some good points, some rubbish points.
A conservative look at human history with a fair few assumptions.
A couple of semi-decent ideas but overall a disappointing read on what could have been a fascinating topic.
