Elsa loves her life taking care of her reindeer herd, even when she eventually realizes the racism and climate struggles that come along with it. To make matters worse, someone is killing reindeer in their community, and Elsa saw who it was.

Read if you want to learn more about the problems that Sami herders face in a modern world.

Yes, while I think this story is an important one, I do wish it was executed better. I'm not sure if there is something un-translatable in the original work. I get the sense that the author wants desperately to show the reader as much about Sami life as she can, so the story and characters suffer for it. Lots of threads dropped here and painfully slow.

It is unbelievable for me that things like this still happen in the world of the Sami. My heart goes out to them and I am very grateful that I learned about it through such a wonderful book.

I loved to be able to read a few words in the Sami language. It seems like a very complicated language to me and I am curious how it sounds.
