A really great and exciting ending to the series. If I had any issues with it, it would be that (because all the couples are together) Sofia and Gideon don't get a lot of "screen time" to development as individuals or/and a couple. That said, Sofia and Gideon are fairly awesome characters (loved their backstories and connections to the other characters!) and are really adorable together.

In terms of the series as a whole, Their Fractured Light wraps up the mystery in a nice and enjoyable way. This book was action-packed and the mission to destroy LaRoux Industries was fantastic - especially as LeRoux Industries has been such a villain since the start of the series.

Overall, the series was really well written and was an amazing ride. Everything wrapped up in an amazing, interconnected way - it didn't feel like their were any major plot holes or forgotten characters. The Starbound trilogy is most certainly recommended to lovers of science-fiction and young adult novels.

“Because if you stay, then rage and grief and pain are inevitable. To live is to feel these things.”

I thought this was a pretty solid ending to the series! I liked the spy-feel of the first half of the book. I was so surprised when it was revealed Gideon was Simon’s brother, but it makes sense since all of the characters are connected somehow. Having the interludes between chapters from the POV of The Collective was so interesting and emotional. I think the interludes were my favorite part of the book. Also, the chapter from Lilac’s POV to finish what was started with the Collective 🤌.

I thought the pacing was a bit weird in the book. It was a very quick start and then the middle got slow at times. The ending was also a bit confusing with what was happening. I also found Sophia to be a bit insufferable toward the end ngl. She got better when she accepted her feelings for Gideon, but there was a minute when she was making me mad lol.

This was a good conclusion to the trilogy but I found myself frustrated about 75% in because it felt like the story couldn't be adequately wrapped up in the remaining pages. I was mostly wrong, although it still felt a bit rushed. However, this is a picky complaint because overall the entire series, and specifically this book, was really engaging.

Book 1 will always be my favorite but this was such a great end to the series. It was interesting to see how everyone is connected. It's got lots of action packed scenes with plenty of romance sprinkle in there. I will say that the romance plot did feel a little repetitive throughout the series. It was always that they hated or didn't trust eachother at the beginning and then boom in love so fast. I think it would have been nice to see some variety.

The first 250 pages were a full 5 stars from me.

After this there were tons of strategical discussions, too much drama and also this whole whispers-concept was hard to grasp.

Ok. So.

This was a 3 1/2 star book for me. That's what I actually gave This Shattered World, which I could barely stand, but I liked the continuation of the world and story. I ended up giving it 3 Goodreads stars because of their no half-star systems, and I DID like this one better than that one, so I rounded up with this one.

I loved These Broken Stars. And in that book there were breaks between the chapters that were clearly tied to the story (they were debriefing interviews with Tarver, the main male character). In This Shattered World, these chapter breaks were random. And in this book, they made even less sense. In fact, they annoyed me, i rolled my eyes, they took me out of the story, and they hurt my overall reading experience.

I'm trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but the 4 other characters from the other 2 books show up a little over halfway through this book, but Tarver and Lilac are basically non-existent in the conversations and tone of the book. I liked Sofia and Gideon, but you barely get to know them before the authors bring back the deplorable Jubilee and Flynn from TSW. It ruined this book for me, and I just didn't care after that point.

I loved it! This was an epic ending to the overarching storyline and definitely went in ways I wasn't expecting. Gideon and Sofia are completely perfect for each other and their journey to figuring that out is quite the adventure! I absolutely LOVE this entire series and highly recommend them!

A year after the Avon broadcast and two years since the Icarus crashed on a strangely terraformed planet comes the launch of Daedalus - a memorial for the Icarus. However, the events are putting yet another planet, Corinth, in danger while also risking the entire human population across all the successfully terraformed planets. No big deal.

We have a new duo yet again, the first of which we were briefly introduced to in This Shattered World - Sofia Quinn. She seemed like a sweet and innocent girl in TSW that it came as a bit of a surprise when she talks about how she reads people so she can manipulate them into doing what she wants or giving her what she needs. She wants revenge for her fathers death and she will pay any price to make sure LaRoux Industries gets what they deserve.

Our new male lead is Gideon Marchant - an eighteen-year-old computer hacker, known as the Knave of Hearts. He too has a connection to one of our previous main characters, but you will have to read to find out who! Gideon knows how to get past all sorts of security measures and can perform hacks like no other. He also lives near a cool Chinese food place, so he definitely has it all going for him, except that he is hell bent on tracking down the woman he believed covered up LaRoux's involvement with all that went wrong on Avon.

These characters were nice to read about but not my favourite (Lilac and Tarver hold that award). Sofia and Gideon's 'relationship' was a mess of trust issues and half truths woven in with hidden agendas and a somewhat common goal. Of course the goal is no different to our previous two duos - take LaRoux Industries down! In fact, it is this common goal that actually bring all six LaRoux-hating individuals together for the big finale to the trilogy. Lilac, Tarver, Jubilee and Flynn have been working together since Avon and with Gideon and Sofia on side, they have a team, they form a plan and they have to hope that they can pull it off among all the chaos.

As with the other two books, the two points of view were separated by a page not in the same timeline as the rest of the book. I listened to part of this book as an audio and I must warn you - these parts were narrated by the whispers and the voice of the whispers may give you nightmares. It was creepy and I may have squealed when I first heard it. Ignoring the minor heart failure I experienced the first time I heard the whispers, these were some of my favourite parts of the book because it told their story which you would not have gotten from any of the human characters.

As for the plot, it was really good. There were a few times I wished it would move along quicker but there were details in those 'slow' moments that were necessary to the plot. I think the story and the conclusion to the events from all three books was a brilliant way to wrap up the trilogy. A scary amount of lives lost on multiple planets thanks to selfishness, an attempted dictatorship and a species that was having none of that but the high anxiety series was filled with a positive message - there is always hope.

I would say this one is a 4.5 but I am rounding up due to my love of the series. I have to say that while the series messed with my emotions and mental health, it was a brilliantly executed trilogy and is a new favourite series that I would recommend to lovers of science fiction and young adult.
