RTC but damn did I enjoy this one. I was such a fan of almost everytbing about this book and I had the best time reading it. Plus it was hot as fuck. And I just adore Jag.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

Jag is a feral man, living in a den on his friend (pack leader) Frank’s property. When Jag fled his prepper family because he was gay he didn’t anticipate needing to be nursed back to health. As luck would have it, Jag found himself a “pack” but now seeing Shane fall in love, Jag wants a mate of his own. Dane is supposed to be dead after getting tangled up with the wrong kind of guy, but he finds himself rescued and nursed back to health from Jag. A city boy and a feral beast have a lot stacked against them as they work toward their HEA.

I really don`t know how they do it but the stories of KA Merikan books are just awesome. None is like the other an you just don`t know what will await you when you start reading.

I really really love them!!

So ridiculous. I felt like it had more potential if it was fleshed out more, because it's a great premise but the execution felt amateur, and the characters were stupid and crazy. I did enjoy the read, but it wasn't as engaging as the authors other books.

When I saw that K.A. Merikan was writing a book for Jag I was so excited. I'd never read about an MC like Jag before so it was sure to be a new experience. From what we learn in book 1 [b:Scum|59584929|Scum (Wrong Side of the Tracks, #1)|K.A. Merikan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1636540570l/59584929._SY75_.jpg|93840619], Jag is basically feral. He was raised in a cult like environment in the middle of the woods where the inhabitants are taught to be completely self sufficient with no relying on anything but themselves and the land around them. It was basically survival of the fittest and to always be prepared for some type of attack.

Jag has left his family behind years ago, but he hasn't let go of his teachings/ beliefs. He lives in a "den" made of scrap and other items he's found around the junk yard that he calls home. He doesn't trust anyone and is paranoid of any visitors to the yard. Even his clothes are fashioned from things he has collected. So when circumstances lead to Jag discovering an injured male in the junk yard, he decides finders keepers still applies. He's been looking for his own mate after seeing how happy Shane is with Ros and this provides him the perfect opportunity. He just has to convince the man he's kidnapped. With his skills and prowess as an alpha, Jag is sure it won't take long.

When Dane wakes up with his own personal Tarzan staring at him he thinks he might be dreaming, or even dead. Unfortunately, he is neither and when Jag informs him he is to leave his life behind and build a life with Jag as his mate he is understandably terrified. Only, as time passes, Dane can see the man behind the alpha attitude. Jag is protective and sweet. He often brings Dane gifts and assures him all the time how he will always be provided for. If he wasn't being held hostage by a wild man, Dane could almost see himself falling for the man. It doesn't help that when things get physical Dane and Jag discover that their unique "tastes" line up perfectly. Oh man, do these two complement each other in that department. Talk about wild.

Though a lot of the plot is focused on the MCs and Dane's time in captivity, I couldn't wait to see what would happen when Shane, Frank, and Dex discover that Jag has been holding a man captive in his Den. It didn't disappoint. Compromise was definitely the major necessity for Dane and Jag to make things work and I really loved how it all turned out in the end.

I'm a little bummed on this one - a dark Tarzan retelling sounded excellent, but I was left wanting more after reading this. Jag was the star of the story, and what made this enjoyable. It felt like there were missed opportunities to expand on the captor/captive relationship during the start of the story, and maybe show more tension or complexity to their romance? Dane was a lacroix in essence. He brought nothing to the story or the relationship and I had to look up his name because I kept getting it wrong.

As for Jag, I loved his character arc. He opened his mind to new social dynamics and relationship dynamics, worked through his childhood trauma, retrained his brain to accept help and to be vulnerable. He was such a wild card character. At times out of control and doing something crazy, then shedding a tear or showing a lot of emotions. I loved his duality. I also loved that while he was this protector alpha man, he was open to change and dismiss any toxic masculinity. I thought it was nice hearing a bit about his backstory, only knowing a tiny bit from book one on his character.

Overall, Jag was the highlight of this story. I think there was some missed opportunities in the story to make Dane a dynamic character and to explore the Stockholm syndrome trope more. The romance and chemistry wasn't there.

Still will be continuing with the series, hoping the next one includes both couples from the previous books!

Honest review. Boy did i want to love this book i REALLY did but i couldn't bring myself to finish it. I managed to get more than half way through this but i just saw no point in getting to the end if i was enjoying each chapter less and less. My issues? I guess Jag wasn't an enjoyable main character. Like he didn't sit right with me. Dane? Possibly the same. There just didn't seem to be any real connection going on or at least there wasn't enough for me to believe this was "love". Everything just felt weird and cringe. I'm sad about this because i wanted to binge this author but i guess it just wasn't meant to be.
