There were super slow parts and good parts. Didn't love the one thing that was mentioned then especially didn't love the result of it. Sigh. Nearly marked down for it but it's my own hangups. Always great to ride along with Joe and the DMS.

Wow, I feel I just got off a roller coaster going a billion miles an hour. Helluva a story, granted slow to start and the flashbacks threw me at first (which is why the 4 stars), however after the first 30% of the book, I couldn't STOP listening. Mr. Maberry has a gift for keeping you on the edge of your seat as you climb into the head of Joe Ledger & Echo team. From heart pounding excitement to heart wrenching tears, the listener/reader is catapulted from one emotion to the next; this series is better than anything on TV, Movies, etc! Why did I wait so long to indulge???

On a side note, this series is BEST experience via audiobook. Ray Porter is a GOD among Narrators. His performance is spectacular! The range of his voices, accents, creation of an character's "voice" in his performance is top notch. Entries in the Joe Ledger series is an auto-buy for me on audiobook. You have the best of both worlds, excellent story telling with Mr. Maberry and excellent performance with Mr. Porter!

Ray Porter does another EXCELLENT job with the narration of this book. I really enjoyed the storyline on this one, Mother Night is a great villain.

Another great one in the Joe Ledger series. Takes a bit to ramp up, but once it gets going it's break-neck all the way to the end. The only thing wrong with this book is that I finished it and now have to wait for the next one. Love this whole series and pretty much every Jonathan Maberry writes.

10/15/2020 Notes:

- Rating Raised from 3.5 to 4 Stars
- Mother Night: Eh, I have some trouble believing in how someone like her made it into DMS but that's just one of the plot holes you have to ignore in the series.
- Great action, love the DMS crew and Church really needs to shed some of his mysticism. Then again, I like that he's so mysterious. =)

As a fan of the first book, Patient Zero, I couldn't wait to get to this one. More zombies! As a fan of the Joe Ledger series, it's getting harder and harder for me to read these fast. They're fun but Joe is always in peril, I mean of course would we expect anything less. In this case it seems the stakes are higher than usual. I was and really I always am fearful for Joe's life. There are also many friends that he's been able to make (and keep so far) along the way and I don't want them to die either!

Although this is about zombies, it's about so much more. The reader knows early on who the villain is going to be, although we can see that the DMS does not. I couldn't wait for them to put together what was happening and why. It took them a while and in that time, they did lose people. It's terrifying but also keeps me on the edge of my seat and wanting the next Joe Ledger story!

Technically this could be a direct followup for the first Joe Ledger, but I recommend reading through his expansive story. There's just so much in this that will make more sense if you read the entire set. Relationships built and destroyed, friendships, Ghost (who better not die!), and more.

Even while I cringe, I love it. I love every word.
