I saw this book pop up on Netgalley’s audiobook section and I’m in my audiobook era at the moment.
This book was like nothing I’ve ever read before. It was fae fantasy but also so much more. There’s so much more to this story than just being a fantasy romance. It felt like it was a longer book than it actually was.
Addie sees things no one else does fairies, other mythical creatures and a man that visits her dreams once a month that captivates her. After her father’s death, Addie and her brother move to New York. Addie meets her flappy neighbour and attends a party, where she meets Jack Warren. He resembles the man from her dreams and nothing is as it seems.
There was so much to this story, the world building was so good. There’s a quest and a heist and the romance was so good between Jack and Addie. They have some spicy scenes and I can only imagine they get spicier.
The side characters were also so fun. I loved them all.
There were so many twist and turns to this story. I was so addicted to it and kept reading anytime I had a chance. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

“It is not our good deeds that make us just, but our hard choices.
Everyone is perfect when there are no difficult decisions to make, when they are on the outside looking in.”

I have mix feelings toward this one, there are some things I really like and find fascinating to know more about but there’s also things that makes me didn’t fully enjoy it.

I got the audio version of this book. I like the narrator’s voice, especially when she sings the song that the main character like to sing. I really like the tune and I find myself humming that song together when the narrator sings it.

The first few chapters are interesting and I got hooked into the story very fast. However, somewhere during the middle of the story, the pacing turns slow and the world building got slightly confusing. Fortunately, the pace picks up again when some of the twists are revealed in the last few chapters.

As for the characters, Addie (FMC) isn’t really a likeable character… I got annoyed by her actions throughout the story probably because she’s too naïve since she was sheltered from the world by her own family. I would’ve liked to see her character grow in the next book because I can see a potential that she could become a badass one.

Overall, for a debut novel this was a pretty good one.
It’s a unique combination of historical fiction x fantasy romance which I like to see more of and I hope there would be exploration regarding the world building and the characters.

I’m looking forward to read the next one to know the answers to some of the mysteries left unanswered from this book.

I received an advanced review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!

The title and synopsis were what caught my attention at first and after receiving an advance audiobook, the story itself pulled me right in.. It’s well written and the narrator does a fantastic job of voicing all the different characters and bringing this to life.

The story is engaging and I kept at it, finishing it in a few days (I know some people have the ability to listen to a book at higher speeds but for me, I can’t really concentrate if it’s faster than 1).

I enjoyed my listening of The Prince of Prohibition and am looking forward to the next title.

** The cliffhanger here is brutal, fyi.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the DRC

Adeline lives a very sheltered life on her superstitious father”s farm. All her life he’s taught her how to keep the devil at bay. After his death, Adeline’s brother, Tommy, can no longer pay for the farm, so it’s off to the glitz and glamor of New York City. There Adeline comes face-to-face with Jack, a millionaire who also happens to be a bootlegger, among other things. What follows is a whirlwind far more intense than anything Adeline could have ever imagined.

This book is LONG. The audio topped out at 19 hours, which is much longer than things I usually read. That said, it didn’t feel that long. In fact, during times when I couldn’t read, I found myself thinking of this book. And itching to get back to it. It’s that good. If I didn’t have to put it down, I wouldn’t have. Adeline is a great character, and Jack, well, do we love him or hate him?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ALC. Brenda Scott Wlazlo was a great narrator when reading Adeline, but her British accents left something to be desired. Nonetheless, I definitely recommend this book.

I LOVED the atmosphere in this book. The setting is the 1920s and it is glitzy and glamorous. This is a sweeping, fantastical story filled with awe and magic.

Unfortunately, very rarely do I find the steam and sexual energy a deterrent in fantasy, and this was filled with it. The story was so intriguing that I wanted more of that beauty and less of the heat. Crazy, right?

I was anticipating that ending, but STILL… gah, it got me!
