I re-read this book with my 3 year old and it was just as good, if not better, this time around. Of course, there are some adult lessons (life and death on the farm and, obviously, the ultimate fate of Charlotte). But the lessons of friendship and the value of good writing are far more important. It took me about 3 weeks of nightly reading to read this to my daughter.
The edition we have is the Barnes & Noble leatherbound illustrated edition which had a picture about 1 out of every 3 pages. This helped keep a young listener's interest.
HIGHLY recommend this edition for read-aloud purposes as a first chapter book.

Such a sweet story of friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte. I loved the movie as a kid, so I wanted to read the book. It's a quick read. I'm glad I finally read it.
I have no idea how this classic ended up on the worst books of all time list!
I read this book a long time ago and it was so great I remember it to this day. One of my childhood favorites!
Beautiful, magical. I really loved this book as a child. I must have read it a dozen times!!
Adorable. I thought I had never read this as a child, but upon reading it now, the story is very familiar, so I must have consumed it somehow when I was younger.
Oh my goodness...I don't remember the last time a children's book affected me quite so much! This is Some Book.

I thought it was kinda odd how I never read this book until today, thanks to my lit class, but even if I did read this as a kid, I probably wouldn't thought it was good.
Charlotte is out here being the real MVP while Wilbur just whines the whole time. I know he's under a year old throughout the whole story, but still. Charlotte has the patience and tolerance of a saint not only for putting up with him for so long but for saving his dumbass from being Christmas ham. And all the thanks she gets is her body being left in the trash while Wilbur continues to live his comfy life with her descendants. For being the titular character, Charlotte really got the short end of the stick.
What I do find interesting about this book is how dumb the humans are, with Charlotte's scheme working on them perfectly. I read through some reviews exacerbating how dumb people are for falling for it, but I can kind of see it, especially when people still fall for dumb advertisements today via online overexaggerated hype or stupid internet challenges that come and go.
All in all, there are better kids books out there, but I don't think it's the worst one to sit down with your kid and read. At least Charlotte herself is still an enjoyable character.
