better continuation of the eve duncan series than the last two books - probably because it focused on eve and not jane! if you like the series, you'll like this book.

It's clear that the series has grown stale. The past two books were more of a shootoff, and worked and were interesting but now that Eve is back doing her thing, it's just that. Typical plot thats becoming overcrowded with it's own stereotypes. Yes, we get a possible clue to who the killer of boonie is but we've still got a name left on the list from like 4 books ago and that isn't counting those two off shoots.

I was disappointed that I didn't like this book more. I was looking forward to reading the next book but now I'm not so sure. I don't really care for the Catherine character or the kid Kelly. The book got better towards the end. I will say I liked how Catherine did away with her nemesis.

It ended better than it began, but wasn't all that engaging or remarkable. The greatest secret agent in the world asks the greatest forensic sculptor in the world for help, but she is having trouble getting past her boss, the greatest spy in the world. It's important, though, because they need to take down the worst criminal in the world. Luckily they get some help from the smartest girl in the world and the best damned cop in the world. So I didn't like the book, but if anyone did it would be you, the greatest reader in the world.

After a few bombs and forcing myself to get through the series just so I could be done with it a gem has finally reappeared and I'm completely back on track with the series.

Maybe it's because I was growing weary with the focus on the search for Bonnie and in Chasing the Night the focus was on a brand new character who, though very similar to Eve was also very much her own person. Catherine Ling was strong, vulnerable, charismatic, honest and vicious. She's one of the first new characters who isn't just a rude, obnoxious, selfish jerk and it was like a breath of fresh air. Kelly was also a great new addition to the cast. The whole setting kind of reminded me of when Jane first showed up on the scene.

Joe was toned down and instead of being just overly protective of Eve he was proactive and determined to help someone other than Eve. Eve didn't sit along the sidelines trying to get around Joe either, she fought and held her ground.

But in the end, literally, the last sentence kind of blew my mind and I am SO GLAD I have the next book, Eve, sitting on my bookshelf right now! Having to wait to get my hands on it probably would have driven me insane!

Thank you Iris Johansen for renewing my faith in the Eve Duncan series!

This is the tenth book in the series and I guess I came in too late. The author did a fair job of introducing the characters again to those of us who have never read another of the series...but there was still a lot of back story I was lost on. That's my fault.

But just taking it as a story...not that great, OK, but not great. The plot device that really threw me for a loop was the ghost of Eve Duncan's daughter...she visits her mom all the time and helps her solve the crimes??? It was really weird and not what I was expecting. I don't mind paranormal crime fiction...but only if I'm expecting it. OK, to be fair, the ghost of her daughter isn't the main plot device, but still.

It's your typical crime fiction. The main character has a tragic past...her daughter was killed years ago and the killer is still at large, yup check. She has a volatile relationship with her partner, yup check. So in comes a beautiful CIA agent who needs her help to retrieve her son from a psychopathic Russian. I knew where this was going to end before I even got too far into it. I just didn't know all the details. It's nothing special, but if you're just looking for some fluffy crime fiction entertainment this one will do.

Thanks to Goodreads for letting me review the ARC.

She moistened her lips.
Bastard.
Damn it.
My God.

Lol every time I read an iris johansen book now I just giggle. It's an easy series to fall back on when I'm not in the mood for anything new. Each book gets a lower and lower rating I swear just becuase they are so damn repetitive and the characters awful. I enjoyed the Kendra Michael's books, not these Eve Duncan ones.

Great read. I was actually glad to read a book about Eve that was not solely focused on Bonnie. I know that Bonnie's kidnapping and her subsequent death is what drives Eve and that she desparately wants to bring Bonnie home I am sort of ready of Eve to let it go or for the author to finally bring the Eve Duncan series to an end. Eve's obsession is alienating Joe and honestly I don't see how their relationship will be able to truly last with that between them. I think I'd like to see Catherine Ling get her own series or Jane to have her own because Eve's story has gone on too long.
