I listened to this on audiobook during my commutes and had a hard time staying engaged and following the narrative. I had a difficult time keeping track of all of thr characters and how they were related. I just don't think I engaged with it well enough for the audiobook format, but I'm looking forward to actually reading it in the future and seeing if it resonates better with me that way.

The story is devastating, Morrison's prose is excellent, but I struggled with the disjointed way the story is told. Certain sections pulled me in, and I couldn't put down. Others left struggling to get through. The narrative changes were rough, though I appreciated how everyone else tells Pecola's story but Pecola. The overall purpose and message of the book hits hard in the end. If you are sensitive to trigger warnings, this is definitely a book to review those before reading.

Wow. I absolutely love Toni Morrison's writing, but her stories are always very polarizing for me. I've read one other book (Song of Solomon) by her so far and one of the things I love about her work is how you will always find out the backstory of a character, even if it's a side character or a character you might not want to know much about.
I loved the moral of the story, and it's something that most people can relate to.
Feeling better about your own life or your own situation because you see someone else in a worse situation.

But also with Toni Morrison, her stories are very raw, which is a good thing most of the time, but there will always be at least one scene that it hard to stick around for.
I loved this for the most part though, mostly because I'm in love with Toni Morrison's writing.

I’ve heard for so long how good this book is, “a must read” - but even still, I was totally unprepared. After reading Morrison’s forward, I was uncertain I would take the right message away from the book. I can see how many would do that, and I wouldn’t claim to receive the full impact, but the power of the her words and writing style is unmatched. This book and its stories are profound and moving, painting an exquisite story. The only regret I have reading this is that I didn’t do it sooner.

This was a hard book to listen to, and I can see why it is frequently banned or challenged. There are many tough topics addressed in this book. However, I can also see why it is an important book, because of those tough topics and what it can teach teens and adults today. This is not a book you would give a child, but I do think it's appropriate for high school.

I get why it won a Pulitzer and also I hated it.
